Hi, I would like to have an audiogram for my 4 year old son. So often he hears a rhyming word in stead of the real word.
I'm not from the USA, so I don't know if I have to go to a ear doctor in the hospital, or are there special audiologic centres???

THANK YOU

What can I do next?

Our allergy specialist Dr. Chihal is an EENT (Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat doctor) and he has an audiologist in his office. He works at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton. His office number is ###-###-####. I know that is still a drive, but it is the only one I know of.

hello-
it's always good to get these things checked out. it may just be due to your child being bilingual or the fact that he is still learning language. you have two options for your son's evaluation. an audiologist does the hearing testing.
1-you could see an audiologist who is affiliated with a speech-language pathologist. it's important to make sure the audiologist has experience with children.
2-you could see an audiologist who is affiliated with an ENT. this is a good option if you feel your child may have medical issues related to his misunderstanding words (such as infections).
i'm an audiologist in dallas and plano. if you would like a referral for there, let me know.
dr. lav kapadia is in arlington and i believe he has an office in irving also. my husband went through residency with him - he's a good guy.
let me know if you need anymore help!

You should check with Irving Independent Schools. By federal law, they have to provide testing if you think that your child has a problem in hearing, speech, or a developmental delay. The idea is to catch those problems before children get to school and get them corrected if necessary. (I taught at Townley Elementary last year in Irving and really liked the district as an employee.) You could contact your local school or the school district offices and they can refer you to the correct person.

Check with your local school district. They should offer pre-K screening. The audiology tests that you are talking about should be part of a pre-K screening that is free thru the school system - if there is really something wrong, they should be able to tell you where to go (if it isn't the school) and if it is a learning disability he should qualify for services NOW thru the district. This would all be FREE.

It depends on your insurance. I would call your pediatrician, tell him or her your concern and see if they screen for hearing. If not, they could probably recommend a good ear, nose and throat specialist who would.
