I know this isn't a child care question but I was needing any advice, suggestions, and personal experiences that any of you have had with online photo processing. I have 3 years worth of family/baby pics on picture CDs and I am wanting to start my son's scrapbooks for each year. I thought that I would go through and pick the pics that I want and use either an online photo processor (like Snapfish) or take them to WalMart and send them off to be printed. I did a small search and have seen that SnapFish is the best price.
Does anyone have experience with Snapfish or WalMart's picture processing? I'm wanting the best quality of images for an affordable price. Also, any other scrapbooking tips and tricks are appreciated! I have my work cut out for me!
Thanks for all your responses!!! I've ordered some pics thrugh Snapfish and they should be here any day! I'm excited to get started on my books- I just wish there were scrapbooking nights/ stores in my town! Thanks again- You all are GREAT!!!

I use snapfish and I love it. I like that you can do it all from home. They will ask you if you would like to pick up the photos but the catch there is you are subject to the store's prices and availability ie:Walgreens 19cents and no matte finish. So to get the best deal you have to have them delivered. Also, you can get better prices if you prepay the account and then order, it would require a little more math and time neither of which I have to patience for. hope this helps.

Shutterfly has better print quality and you get the photo name and date on the back of the photo (makes them easier to organize). We buy the bulk option (prepay) and it works out to cost about 12 cents a print. This is definitely the best deal for the quality in my opinion and we have used several online and in store options. Good luck!

This will sound weird, but I have found that if I have a very large order of photos (100 or so), they don't turn out as well from Snapfish. A small batch of 20 or so is fine. Personally, I like Winkflash the best (they are actually a penny cheaper), or the one hour photo at Sam's or Costco - not the send out ones which don't turn out well. I'm not sure what their cost is now as I don't have a membership card anymore. I LOVE scrapbooking and have been doing it for about 15 years, so if you have any questions, let me know!

I love Walmart. I've printed 1 to 2 and over 100 before and they all come out the same. You can have them delivered to the store and not pay a shipping cost, just tax or you can have them delivered to your house. They can do them in 1 hour or several days. And the price is much cheaper than some of the other places. Shop around and check it out. I do it online and Walmart keeps a record of my folders so if I mess something up I can order another print and pick it up within the next hour or so. Good luck and God Bless and kudos to you for giving him memories he'll love for a lifetime.

The prices at SAM's Club are better than Wal-Mart's. Never used Snapfish. I always do 1 hour photo @ Wally world. I always get doubles in case I mess up one while making a page. If I don't mess up then I have an extra to give to grandparents. I too have a wonderful 3 year boy, whom I have to catch up on all 3 year's of his scrapbooking. I'm doing that this summer as well. I just found a list of 45 scrapbooking tips, and if you send me your e-mail addie I'll e-mail it to ya. Mine is ____@____.com

What about doing an online scrapbook??
I use Shutterfly and make my scrapbook on their website. When I'm done, they print the book and bind it like a real professional book. It's CHEAPER!!! The book I did was $200 for 100 pages, for the entire year and I know I used to spend more then $200 for prints for a years worth. Just a thought. I have researched ALL online scrapbooks and this is the best one. They have lots of options for colorful fun background pages. Good luck!

Funny to see this question - I just started scrapbooking as I'm expecting my second and haven't ever done my daughter's baby book.
Anyway, I have a couple of friends that are really (I mean REALLY) into scrapbooking. They turned me onto Walgreens and I've been really happy with it. Mainly because you can do it all online. Go to walgreens.com and set up a free account. You can scan all of your pics and separate them into albums, do some basic cropping/editing if needed, and pick and choose the pics you want to order. If you order 100 or more it's only 15 cents for a 4x6. Otherwise it's 19 cents. You can also choose the store where you want to pick up the order.
What I like (because I have a lot of pictures too) is that I can organize my pictures into various "albums"... I separate them according to the pages I'm doing so it helps me organize before I even start the scrapbooking portion.
Also, even though I don't ask for the rush processing, it's almost always ready in an hour. They send an email when it's ready.
Finally, I don't know if you know about Scrapbook Generation's "Midnight Madness" crops but it's a bunch of ladies that get together twice a month on Fridays at the store from 5pm to midnight. Everyone crops together and we get a lot more done. There's pizza and snacks and it's fun to bounce ideas off each other. They also have other Saturday crops and lessons. They also have a great layout book that's been invaluable for me in creating some nice layouts.
Best of luck. Hope this helps.

Hello, I have used both Snapfish and Walmart.com. They were both good quality pictures. I like Snapfish because when you become a new member (or make your hubby a new member) you get free pictures. And I like Walmart.com because of the convenience factor. I actually used Walmart.com just the other day. I ordered my pictures and my hubby picked them up for me the next day at our Walmart. They do have 1 hour photography, but I think that I ordered them too late in the evening. Hope this helps. With snapfish in order to get more free prints I signed up my hubby as a new member to get more free prints, so that might cut down your cost a bit if you are ordering a whole bunch.

Yes, I have been using Snapfish for about 5 years. I love it, the pictures come out wonderful. I like that I can process them at my convenience, house, etc. You can put a border on your picture, turn them black, crop, etc. And also the good news it's only 9 cents a print and the 5x7 are cheap as well. You can also do many Mother's Day / Father's Day / birthday / Christmas stuff such as cards, coffee cup, etc. There is so much you can do it's wonderful. The only thing I do before I order is go online and type in Snapfish coupons, there is always coupons out there to save you some money. Sometimes the shipping can be expensive, but that's where I usually always get free shipping or 20% off or something. Also, the more times you order, you get free stuff. Such as posters or notepads. Anyhow, I hope this helps you. Take Care and good luck, M.

Wow that's a big project to be taking on. But I understand wanting to get caught up. I would first sort through your pics on your pc at home and really look at each one and decide which one's you want to use for the scrapbooking.
I would consider doing an album for each of the 3 years.
I usually only use 12X12 pages and put 3-4 pics on a scrapbook page, or if you are doing a 2 page spread (meaning 2 pages lying side by side are made up to be like 1 page, with a title or such spreading across both pages) with 4-6 pics. I would probably divide the pics into years, year 1, year 2, etc. I probably would do more than 36-40 pics for each year. More than that would be overwhelming to scrapbook and would make your album look cluttered.
Create another folder on your pc and put the pics chose in there. Then send only those pics to be printed. It'll save you money and a headache. :)
Now for printing. I've used Walgreens... they are horrible (at least around here, south county) never get the orders right, try double charging me (online and again when I pick up the pics), and generally don't know a thing about pictures.
Walmart is much better. I've not had problems with them. Once my order didn't show but they corrected the problem on their expense. Plus Walmart has True Digital Prints. They print the pic on 3.5" X 4 paper and is the true pic the way your camera took it. With the 4X6 's they have to crop (cut away part of it) the original pic to make it fit on the paper. Plus the smaller picture size makes it easier to fit on scrapbook pages, while still using borders and such :)
I've never used Snapfish, but I've been reading that they are cheaper? Don't know for sure, I might check into it.
Good luck with your albums and have fun!
A. :)

I have been using snapfish since 2003 and have been pleased with them. You can also do a lot of fun things with your pictures (turn color to BW, zoom in on subject, get stickers made, wallet sizes, and add borders Etc). in the 5 years i have used them i only had one issue (2004?); my photos got sent to an army base in germany. I was very fortuante that the person who recieved the photos sent them back to me. I had many e-mail's with snapfish regarding the disatisfaction and they gave me credit for the 'lost' photos etc. I continue to use them, and i like the fact that they store all my photos, by year, on their data base & they are very easy to use. I feel that their quality has been good too.

Hi E.,
I use Snapfish for all of our pictures and I think they are great! The quality of the pictures will be as good as your camera...if they don't turn out well, it's because the photo wasn't high quality in the first place, and no matter where you take them they will be the same. You can choose to pick them up in-store if you want them quickly...they cost a little more per print, but generally that is still cheaper than paying the shipping costs, AND you get them in about an hour! The store will send you an e-mail when they're ready. I am SO behind on my daughter's scrapbook so I hope yours turns out great! :)

My husband and I have found adorama.com, which has produced some really nice pictures. We have a pretty good digital camera (Cannon Rebel) and have begun taking pictures of the kids instead of taking them to JCPenneys or Sears Portrait Studio (saves time and money!). Then when we have the pictures developed at adorama, they have turned out great. Just the other day, my cousin was over and asked where we go for the kids' professional pictures, I told her we do them ourselves and she was shocked. She said the quality was so good she couldn't tell the difference. As far as Walmart, I have not been really happy with any I have developed there, especially the one hour and if you do go with them, don't get the glossy, they are not nearly as crisp and clean looking. Hope this helps!

congratulations on making such a commitment to your child's memories in the making! My children are older, & I'm just now moving beyond the basic "take a picture & store it in a box". My sons are almost 12 & almost 21, & just the sorting process & beginning the albums has filled more than 40 hours spread over the last month! This project is MY Mother's Day gift to myself...knowing that my sons will have this completed project to hold onto when they have their own children. We've all had a blast, & I've loved their input!
I'm a purist when it comes to photos, being the main archivist for our entire family. I have photos from pre-1900, & one of the most important aspects of keeping photos ...would be not destroying them & keeping them safe for future generations. To that end, I never use mounting tabs or glue on the actual photo. I rely on photo corners, which uses up more time....but preserves the photo. Good luck & I hope you enjoy Scrapbooking as much as I have!

I haven't used Snapfish before but I have used Shutterfly and have been very pleased with their pictures and projects that I have made. I have made 4 scrapbooks online with them and loved them all. It is a very user friendly site I think. As far as price is concerned I don't know how it compares to the other two. I do know that if you buy the pre-pay packages for prints you can get them as cheap and sometimes cheaper than Walmart prints. Aslo the more you used them you will start to get discounts or special offers. Good luck and have fun with it!

I have completely stopped using Walmart photo processing since I found Snapfish and Shutterfly online services. For a busy mom, like myself, it's SO much easier so download my pics at home and have them mailed directly to my house. Snapfish does have better prices, but I prefer Shutterfly myself because, even though they're a little higher priced, they automatically print the date the pic was taken on each picture for you. For someone like me that waits a long time to print a lot of pics, this is extremely helpful when I'm putting them into an album. Snapfish only prints the date you ordered the pics on the back of each pic. My advise, do what I did, and open accounts with both snapfish and shutterfly (and any other online services that offer free pics with an account) and take advantage of their 25-30 free pics for openeing an account. I opened three different ones when I started and now they all send me emails with special deals (free pics or free shipping) when they run them and I can take advantage of whoever has the best price at the time. I've had good experiences with both. Good luck!

Don't use Sanpfish or Walmart. We have a flatbed scanner and scan older photos, slides & documents. We also download from our digital camera. My husband has a separate net drive set up for these and other things we will be keeping long term.
Several good photoshop programs are available. I use Photo Explosion Deluxe. It's basic, not expensive, but after some experimenting, have managed to create lots of fun stuff. I also still do some manual (you can't beat scissors, glue, stickers, pens & die cuts for some real fun!)scrapbooking then scan it to keep a copy.
A couple of things:
1. With digital, most of us take tons of photos. Save, but don't print out everything.
2. Back up everything both online & to CD, send a family member copies of your files also. I do genealogy as well and attach mine to my ancestry.com tree. Lots of folks attach theirs to myspace or facebook.

I love snapfish. Very Easy to use, great prints and great prices. I used them while I was overseas with the military. I would send in my 35mm film, they would post the prints on the web for my family to see and mail the prints too. Now I download my digitals to the web and it is also really easy to use. Great prices, and they often have deals on shipping or sales on special products. I have been interested in the collage prints for scrapbooking. For $2.99 or so you can put up to 20 pics on one page (8x10). It is almost a whole scrapbook page done for you! I print my christmas cards through them every year. I also like that you can pick up the prints at Walgreens if you don't want to wait for shipping. Enjoy the scrapbooking!

I'm a big scrapbooker, and I've tried a lot of different places for photo processing. I like Shutterfly the best because of quality, but when it comes to price and quality, I would go with Snapfish, hands down. If I were you, I would purchase a bulk photo package. Then, to maximize your savings, I'd order when there was some sort of discounted shipping deal.
I have never tried Wal-mart, just because I am do not shop there. I use Walgreens occasionally but only when they have super deals, like when they offer a free 8x10 or something like that. I don't like Walgreens because you cannot get matte processing through the store, and in order to get their special deals, you have to purchase the photos in-store. The in-store photos are only done in shiny finish, and I am so bad at getting fingerprints all over those.
You might want to check prices at Costco and Sam's, too...
I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me if you have other questions!

Snapfish is better quality by far, than Walmart. But Walmart is way more convenient- you can upload them onto Walmart.com and then just go pick them up. I use Snapfish if I have time to wait for the pics to get to me. If I'm going to a 'scrap night' and don't have the pics I need, then I just do them at Walmart.com because they go through the one-hour photo lab. I prefer the matte finish on my pictures for scrapbooking and they don't offer it at Walmart.com-- Snapfish does offer it. Also Snapfish will run specials and discounts every month and around holidays, etc. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi there! I use Snapfish and love the website, the prices, and the service. All of the photos in my youngest two scrapbooks are from Snapfish. They look great. Plus once you are on their mailing website, they send you specials periodically for 9¢ prints or free shipping. If you're in a hurry, you can upload the photos through the website then pick them up at a local Walgreens at a much lower price than if you just went directly to Walgreens, Walmart, etc.
If you're not super creative and want to get as many pages done in a short time, take a look at some of the project packs. They have paper that leaves places to just paste in the picture and journal your memories. It saves you time building borders or creating the complete layout from scratch. Many of the craft stores have these sets or you can look online at the Oriental Trading Company.
Good luck!

Hi E.,
Just to give you a price difference.
Snapfish cost is .09cents a per 4*6 pic
and Wal-Mart is at the cheapest .17cents on a good day.
I printed pics at Wal-Mart at xmas only
because I was in a crunch and paid $80.00.
The same pics would have only cost me $20.00 at snapfish and
the quality is the exact same as you printing them
from your own computer.
I hope this helps.

I have a friend who uses snapfish and she's very happy with it.
I use kodakgallery.com and am pleased with it.
The easiest way to manage it is to upload your cd's as you get them (that's after you get caught up :). Then it doesn't take any time to drag and drop.
Kodakgallery.com does not allow you to alter the paper on individual pages. I'm ok with that because it makes it faster.
One thing that works for me is to write a letter to the child in each book. I started just doing it at the end of the yaer but now I try two per book. Usually mid year since I'm always behind starting them. Include height and weight if possible.

I have been using Snapfish for about 5 years, and wouldn't trust my photos anywhere else. A couple of years back, I sent the same picture to three different online processors and to Walmart to compare print quality. Snapfish had the truest colors and best picture crop with their "true digital" prints. You are asked when ordering whether to use the digital cropping option, and I always do. Walmart had the worst quality of all the places, so I only use them in "emergencies" ! Snapfish also gives you the option of saving on shipping and printing at a local Walgreens store, which I have done a few times, but the quality is mediocre at best in comparison. The extra cost of shipping is worth it to me ! Also, occasionally Snapfish will run 3 day specials of free shipping. Just my opinions, hope it helps !

I use walmart for all of my pictures if I don't print them. If you don't want all the pictures you can either go into the store and use the instant print machine or you can use one of the other machines and they will be done in about 2 days. I have no tried it but walmart says the pictures are water proof when they are done being printed. Which I guess I should try it with a picture I don't want. I have never had a problem and if for some reason the picture is blurry I am not being charged for the picture the only way I am being charged is if I still want the picture. Have never had any problems with them I have even used walmart's online picture processing area to make poster prints, just remember if you want to make poster prints make sure you have large file or something that says for poster prints checked before you upload the picture to there. I also use the walmart because it is a free archive of my pictures if my computer crashes they are still on there. I have been scrapping for 7 years now and don't think I have ever printed anywhere but walmart or my own printer at home.
