Just wondering why you guys use this site. Wow! That sounds mean!

My question is are you stay-at-home dads? Single dads? Working but just really into this kind of stuff?

OR do you use this site so you can truely understand what moms are thinking? Now that would be a GREAT reason!!

I was just curious because I could never see my husband on a site like this- even though I think he would learn something!

So What Happened?

Thanks! I was just curious- not hatin' on anyone :)

To all those haters for the guys- what difference does it make if they are male or female? As long as they aren't being mean or hateful it shouldn't matter! There are a lot of moms out there who are down right rude when they answer a question so I just don't see a problem with it!!

Love all around :)

They are on here because there is not a Dadapedia - or at least nothing as good as Mamapedia. They have kids and questions (and answers).

It's not about being "into this kind of stuff" or wanting to know what moms are thinking........I think it's just them being parental.

btw - my husband would not be on a site like this either, but he has me, so he also wouldn't need to.......

First off, Amanda you are correct, there isn't a Dadapedia. I thought about creating one, but I'm sure it would turn into fart jokes and bad 'blonde jokes'. My wife has been on here for years and from time to time would tell me what she read on here about certain situations our family was facing.
Next, I am a full fledged SAHD. I get the kids up, to school, pick up the kids, cook dinner, clean the house, do laundry, keep the yard up, the pool and two cars and a motorcycle. So, in some circles, my man card would be pulled. But I'm happy and so is the wife.
I'm on here to more or less read situational responses to everyday things. And actually, some of the questions asked on here have me thinking 'really!?!?'. I have been sent hateful messages telling me to get the hell off of here and I guess if that was the general feeling, I probably would leave.... But until then......... :)

I have wondered the same thing. I know there's Ben and Jim on here, and quite possibly a few others. Let's see if they're willing to admit that they're on here snooping around.

My husband -- if he were on here would be a troll. He'd post stupid answers and stupid questions. (He wouldn't read to try to learn about women or anything like that). He laughed at some questions/answers from a troll a few months ago. If I didn't see him at home, I'd had thought he was the troll asking the stupid questions about thawing a turkey in the microwave. So perhaps it's a GOOD thing he's not on here.

@ Jim - we love ya here. Welcome!

I have to admit I get seriously offended---seriously---when I see someone being accused of "snooping" when they are asking the SAME kinds of questions to the SAME kinds of problems we are, just because of gender. Gender, age, race, weight, hair color, what freaking difference does it make if the questions and answers are as insightful or real as women?
My brother is a man's man FOR REAL. One of the most manly men I've ever known. But he's now a sahd because his wife makes a ridiculous amount of money at her amazing job (he owned his own business and had a great reputation, worked while she finished up school and a few years into her career, but he left his job so that she could fulfill her dream---now he is an amazing dad to their wonderful boys). While that's not "traditional", it's awesome. And took a lot of courage and swallowing the pride. He has called me to ask "what that mom site" would say, or what "that baby book" says (What to Expect the First Year) about a few things (but he isn't the type to sit and read anything on a computer). My husband will also sit and eat nachos with me occasionally and we'll talk while playing on mamapedia. We use some of what we see as good advice, some for conversation starters to discuss what WE would do. He may well be on here if, God forbid, anything ever happened to me and he needed some advice. He likes it for the same reasons I do, but is tired of the computer and doesn't even check his email but once a week----he's on a computer all day at work.

I actually think it's awesome to have dads on here! A different perspective AND the acknowledgement that dads are parents too!

If my hubby were the SAHP then he would probably be on here, too. He is the first one to jump online to look up a problem we are having - including dealing with me when I had pregnancy depression and post pardum depression. He helped me get through that because HE did the research and explained to me what he read.

I love seeing dads becoming more engaged with their children. Something our society will only benefit from!

I think a site for moms should be used by moms. I don't care to hear a man's opinion and I don't consider that hating. I never saw a man come ot a MOPS meeting and it would change the dynamic of the room if one did.

Great question! I wonder the same thing when ever I see an answer from a dad. LOL Amanda & JessinTexas...My husband would be a "troll" to he would ask something silly. And as much as I talk about what I read on mamapedia he doesnt need an account.

Great question! I've wondered. My husband would never be on here. Maybe if he stayed at home and had a real tricky kid question but he certainly wouldn't be taking time to answer other people's questions unless maybe they had to do with construction or something like that. And then that would mean he'd have to spend time every day scrolling the questions and he would never do that. I love the perspective 8kidsdad bring though given his various jobs in life and having raised EIGHT kids and stayed happily married. And I get the impression he's semi-retired so understandly has the time.

My husband tries to get me off facebook & so I am on here more -- especially since facebook made the annoying changes....

So, I tell him "it's not facebook, I'm on mamapedia."

He joked about how there should be a Papapedia. lol

I'm a work-from-home Dad 6 months of the year and my 10 month old son was teething. Nobody IRL seemed to have a useful suggestion - so I googled and came across mamapedia.

I found some good answers and came back later to check around and see if any of the advice fit my (and my wife's) parenting style. It did, so I joined. :)
