Atlanta Mom Looking for Nanny Advice/Info

I've got a 6-month old son, and just started back to work full time. I feel so guilty leaving him in daycare and wonder if an in-home nanny situation would be better for him - particularly for his sleep schedule. (He gets very little sleep in "school").
Do any of you have strong opinions pro/con for nannies?
In Atlanta - what's the best way to go about finding one?

What can I do next?

Good morning S.,

My name is A. and I am a single mother of two beautiful boys ages 3 & 18months old in the Norcross/ Duluth area. Although I am a full timw worker as well, I love the childcare center they are currently attending and would prefer to have a nanny come to home (if my funds we better :-()but I recently been introduced to a website called craigslist.com, it's a wonderful website and there are other moms that have postings looking for childcare and/or nannies, as well as childcare providers/ nannies that have postings about themselves as well as their hours. I hoped I have helped and good luck in finding the BEST for your child.

S.,

I was in your same situation and I ended up getting one of the ladies at the daycare center to come work for me at our home. My son loved her so much that when she was not at the school you could tell he was not happy.

I looked into a nanny service and told them what I wanted. They are very expensive to me? They wanted $250 for a finders fee and then it was going to be $500+ a week. I decided to confront the teacher at the daycare and she was very excited about it. We struck a deal at $10/ hr and vacation time. It has been the best thing we did.

He is still around children's activities like art and story time. He is not sick like he was in daycare. Within a year he has only had 1 cold. Amazing to me, because it was all the time. Which has saved on work time and doctors visits and co-pays.

It might sound like it is expensive, but in the long run you have a better behaved and relaxed baby. I can not recommend having someone stay at home with your baby enough!! You are not spoiling them by doing this. But, I would make sure you get someone that has a passion for learning and not someone that dumps them in the TV room all day.

Hi! I have a 9 month old son in "school" full time. I really think it's great because it's very structured and he gets a lot of time with other children his age, which he wouldn't with a stay at home nanny. I ran into problems with him not getting enough sleep in school. I ended up getting very specific with his teachers and insisted several times that they make sure to put him down for his nap two times a day. I really followed up with them for a couple of weeks and now it's working!

Anyway - good luck with your decision!

My 7 month old is in daycare and she loves it. I like that she gets interaction with other children. At first she got sick, but we got over that. The only really good thing about a nanny is he will get more one on one attention and time. However, I think his sleep schedule will probably change after he gets used to the new routine and I am glad that there is not someone fussing over my baby constantly. They take care of her, and play with her and tend to her needs but she is not getting spoiled and she is becoming a little more independent. You could always advertize for a nanny on craigslist or here, or even in a local college newspaper. Most important things is what you feel comfortable with.
