What is a SAFE place to stop? We usually stay at a holiday inn express or hilton garden inn. We want an indoor pool if possible.
We will be getting up and leaving around 10 or 11 am on a weekday in June. I really appreciate the help. This will be our one and only big vacation and I want it to be stressfree if possible.
I don't trust AAA since they once had me drive 4 hours out of the way for no reason.

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I ditto Julie! Conyers on the east side of Atlanta is the best bet. I-20 actually goes right through the inner city and it would be hit or miss finding a good place. Not to mention the traffic is horrendous on I-20 most everyday of the week....

Hey! I used to live right outside the perimeter in Lawrenceville,Ga. I highly recommend that area. It is about 3-4 miles off of I-85 on Hwy 316. It is a safe area and there is a mall and lots of great places to eat. It would put you far enough outside the perimeter that the traffic would not be horrible. Again, lots of shopping and restaurants.
Have a great trip!

Since you have a little time contact AAA. If you are a member they can map out the entire trip, including places to stay.

Have fun!

You should stop either right before you actually get into Atlanta (around Douglasville/Lithia Springs) or a little after you get out of Atlanta -(Conyers area). I would vote for the Conyers area. There are lots of chain-type motels, restaurants and exits there. I actually live very close to 20 right in the city, and it's great, but once you're "inside the perimeter"(I-285), there aren't any decent places to pull off of 20 and stay.
