At What Age Do You Stop Giving Your Baby, Baby Food?

At what age do you stop the baby food and they just eat regular food. She is now 10 months old and I am not sure how much she should be eating of regular food. She doesn't seem really intreested in regular food. She will eat a bit but wants food and formula. I feel like she is not eating enough regular food so I give her baby food too. When did you stop?

What can I do next?

I would say regular table food is pretty standard to be introduced between 9 and 12 mos and most babies are completely off baby foods by 14 mos. My kids were off them around 12-13 mos and eating 3 regular meals a day and 1 or 2 snacks. I know it especially hard if they seem not interested or are slow eaters....but in the long run, letting them fumble around and self-feed are great things and help develop those skills as young as possible! It will pay off later. I always started with the table foods and then if they didn't appear to eat too much, would whip out some baby food....cuts down on cost and gets them used to finding primary nutrition in table foods.

My guy is 21 months and I keep jars on hand for when I am uncomfortable with his intake at a meal or he is being picky. My last resort if you will. I continue to "push" healthy adult food but when it's not going over I use the jars to ensure his diet is balanced and wholesome.

Most of her calories should come from formula or breast milk until a year of age. For the rest of it she can eat the same foods you are eating (no honey until a year due to risk of botulism, no raw/undercooked meat or shellfish yet), as long as they are a texture/consistency that is safe for her. We NEVER used baby food. Taste it and you will see why.

I continued to give my first son baby food up until a year, maybe a little longer, he wasn't eating much regular food and I wanted to make sure he was getting all his fruits & veggies. He was always very healthy and continued to gain weight so I think it is fine. He gradually adjusted to eating more table foods. My second son preferred the texture of regular food and was eating everything that we were, just cut up small, by 9 months. I think some kids just take a little longer to adjust to the texture of regular food. I'm sure she'll transition just fine since you said she is already eating a bit.

I gave my oldest baby food until he was about a year. When we intruduced cows milk, eggs, and peanut butter, he started to get more and more table food. Let your baby decide. I started out with Quaker oatmeal instead of baby oats and rice cereal, and it seemed to be an easy transition :)

My baby is the same age as yours. She never liked baby food so I just give her whatever we are eating. I either cut it up in small pieces or put it in the food processor. Last night she had chicken alfredo and toast. She nurses 3 times a day and eats 3 meals a day.

I started my son on "real" food. I cooked all his food and then pureed it to the consistency the needed at the time. The transition to our food has been quite easy. Most of the time he eats what we eat now (he's 19mo) and has been since he was about 14mo. He has a severe egg allergy so there are foods still that we haven't quite given up and just cook something extra or slightly different for him. For example last night I made beef strognoff I usually make this with egg noodles, but for him cooked a separate pasta that's egg free (a little more expensive too). He didn't know the difference and for the most part was still eating what we eat. Of course there are a few foods we still haven't given him like shell fish and nuts...but other than that he pretty much eats what we do.

When I cooked his food, I cooked in mostly in bulk and froze the left overs in ice cube trays so they were portioned out. All I had to do was take as many cubes out and thaw them out (20sec in microwave). This way I could mix veggies easily without always keeping them that way. He loved it!!

If you started her out with "real" food then be patient...she'll catch on. Just keep working on the consistency of the food, making it a little more and more solid. If you started her out on jarred baby food, you could just take the jarred baby food away, cook a few meals for her and puree them to the consistency she likes, and then go from there. She'll catch on. If you don't feel comfortable with this...be patient..she'll learn to eat what you do. Remember there's aren't any 3yr olds out there still eating jarred baby food!

totally depends on your child. We started my oldest on table foods with purees at about 8 months and she weaned from the purees about 10 months, went straight to table foods at 6 months with my youngest...my brother's kids ate mostly baby food until almost 18 months, and my SILs kids stayed on them mainly until closer to 15 months....my kids don't like purees and do fine with texture, some kids don't....just offer a variety at every meal and see where she goes with it.

She might be too young. My baby was a year before he would not choke on tiny pieces of "real" food. So I say maybe stick with baby food since it's pureed and try to introduce soft, small pieces of "real" food. They say to stay away from honey and peanut butter until age 2 due to allergies. Other than that I offered my son small soft pieces of what we were having at the age of one year like mashed potatoes, tiny pieces of chicken that they cannot choke on.
He did choke on lots of things and it was scary so I waited and tried to re-introduce things again later. BABY CEREAL (pureed oatmeal) was great mixed w/breast milk or regular milk..which ever he is eating: read the label to be sure.).

My son would never eat baby food, even homemade. He liked textures. We would just light mash fruits and veggies we were eating. By 10 months, he was eating whatever we were. I think it totally depends on the baby. Some babies just don't like textures, while some thrive on it. Her main source of nutrition will be formula for a few more months. As long as she is trying table foods, she will probably transition OK when it's time for solids to be her main nutrition.

My DD is 10 months old, and almost completely off 'baby' food. The only purees she gets any more are fruit for breakfast. Other than that, she gets table food. She likes it SOOO much more than the purees. The funny thing is that she only has 2 teeth (almost 4... her 2 top are just cutting through...) but she is able to chew things like crackers, hamburger, beans, etc. I had a roomate though who'se baby preferred purees until she was about 13 months. Just remember that regular food is more 'filling' than baby food, so it may not seem like she is eating as much as she is. Compare it to eating a milkshake... you could probably suck down a medium size shake, but if you were to fill that same cup with chicken nuggets I doubt you would be able to eat them all. As long as she is gaining weight and happy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If she prefers purees, no problem as long as she's getting those nutrients. I have never heard of a kindergartener eating purees, so rest assured that she will transition eventually. ;)

With my oldest we started on table food at about 10 months. She still got some baby food though.

My youngest got table food and baby food till she was about 11 months, I think.

At 10 months you should be offering table foods. Put her in the high chair and give her little pieces of whatever it is you're eating for dinner. She can have almost anything you eat.

I made my own food. My problem was never having any jars. I used snack baggies and froze the kids' purees.
By the time they had enough teeth I would just give them table food smashed up, probably 8 months or so.
