About 2 for a tricycle.. He rode a bike without training wheels at 4.5... All kids are different though.. My neighbors son didn't learn to ride his bike without training wheels until 7...
At what age did your child learn to peddle a tricycle or big wheel or something of this nature? Wouldn't you say by 4 years old they should be able to master this skill? Thanks!

Tricycle at 3, but don't worry if they can't do it yet. I have a neighbor who is 9 who still can't ride a bike. This really has nothing to do with their success in life or sports!
With enough practice my 3yr old can mostly pedal her trike, but she has very bad driving skills.
My son was riding a Big Wheel at 3, and just got his Big Boy bike for his 4th birthday (which we can't get him off of). My daughter is 2 years, 5 months and rides his Big Wheel - using the pedals.
I would think, but every child is different. My dd is almost 5 and on her second bike...she had started riding a trike at 2.
I'm not sure. I've known folks who didn't learn to ride a bike until they were in their twenties. One couldn't because she grew up in the city and it wasn't safe to practice. The other grew up in the woods and was TERRIFIED of learning. We're all different.
I live in the boonies and our driveway is really large (and safe). Both my kids spend a lot of time outside and CAN practice riding a bike. That and they enjoy the process. My eldest joined our family when she was a few weeks shy of three years old. We gave her this little red tricycle when she turned three and she was absolutely delighted. She wouldn't get off the thing! I think we gave it to her around noon, and by 4:00pm she had it down. She's riding a big girl bike without training wheels now, but is having a difficult time turning. I won't take her on the main road for a while yet.
My youngest learnt to ride a tricycle when she was about 2.5. Before that she just scooted herself around, it was faster that way. She isn't quite the bike enthusiast that our other one is.
Yes, my daughter had already moved on to a 2 wheel bike by age 4
It depends on how much time they spend trying and where they live. My kids learned to peddle and had tricycles at 3, and 2 wheel bikes by 4. Not a problem with a nice paved driveway and quiet street and me willing to be outside with them a lot. My sisters kids, on the other hand, never had bikes and lived on a gravel road with a rock driveway. I remember when they were at our house visiting once and the older daughter, about 12, wanted to try out our sons bike. She sat on it and then pushed with both feet to roll out into the street. We were all yelling "put your feet on the peddles and peddle!" She tried, but had no balance, and then ran right into the neighbors mailbox and hit the ground! She evidently didnt know how to steer either.
My four year old can pedal but he still choose's not too. He feels he goes faster if he uses his feet on the ground. I am thinking he will do it when he is ready and probably more so when this summer he sees other kids doing it. Hope this helps!
My son's doctor asked if he was doing this at his 3 year check up (he was). I am not sure if she would have been concerned if he was not or would have just said to keep an eye on it. We were in FL at that age so he had more opportunity to ride than say some child living in a winter climate.
2 years old.
For both my kids.
My kids were 2 or 3 when they learned on the trike and were on bikes with training wheels a few months after that.
About 2. Our ped questioned us about that and also walking stairs foot over foot. But I have a friend whose son has never been coordinated in that way (he also can't walk in flip flops). As long as they can walk normally and don't seem to have physical limitations, then I wouldn't worry about it.
My daughter was doing that at 2.5 to 3 (she had both a tricycle and a Big Wheel)...then just before turning 4 she was doing a big-girl bike with training wheels.
Not necessarily. Depends on the kid and how much practice they get.
~My kids for instance are terribly lacking in the bike riding skills and I take 100% responsibility for it...I just haven't bought them bikes or trikes...I know, I know: Bad Mommy!
approx. 3 years to start riding... but the child needs time to master any new skill...he does it well at 3.5 now.
Between 2.5 and 3 years.
Around 2 years. I remember it was something that our ped asked at her 3 year old check up...
18-24 months....but both of my sons were masters at all physical activities. My older son was able to crawl/manuever throughout the entire house by 9 months - as in we had to pull him off of bookcases & out of window frames. My younger son crawled out our front door, down the driveway to the street, & actually turned left to go to his godfather's house (2 doors down)....before we stopped him at the street. He was 11 months old.
I have no idea how I survived their childhoods. With my older son, I had a muscle twitch below my eye from 9 months to 18 months. It was that stressful! I used to say that "if I survived his childhood, he'd be one Hell of a man". :) Thanks for bringing back the memories! It's a Friday night & both of my sons are out....
