You can check with your elementary school--I know my son's 2nd grade teacher does tutoring after school. Good luck!
I'm looking for a Tutor to help my 3rd grader with Math, Reading Comprehension and Writing skills. I would like someone to start soon and continue a few months this summer to help prepare for 4th Grade.
Does anyone know of someone who they've used and recommend? This person must be willing to drive to my home in Murphy.
Thanks

Check with a local university or even high school. I am sure they know of a student who could use the money. You may have to talk to a department head or teacher. Some of the schools have gotten as confidential as a doctor's office. If you ask for the head of the Math department and then ask that person if he(she) knows of a student who excells at algebra, for instance, and has patience to teach a younger person. You may have to leave your number and ask to be called back. And your child may have an easier time relating to someone closer to his (her) age.
Also "piggy back:" off Denise P's comment, Try the local community college or University...College kids who are studying to be teachers...They always need a few extra $$ and would make the effort.
My daughter has a Tutor that comes to our house.
She has a Master's Degree and is a credentialed Teacher etc.
How I found her was, I was at a bookstore with my kids. In the cafe area, I saw her Tutoring a child. So, I observed her. Then liked what I saw and approached her and talked to her and got her phone number.
Great lady and Tutor.
And does not charge a ton. Like most Tutors.
Her reasoning is, she likes to help kids who need it, not to make money off of the parents. So parents can actually afford, getting help, for their child.
You might try the website: www.care.com They have Tutors. And supposedly are supposed to be background checked.
all the best,
Susan
Talk to your school's guidance counselor and your son's teachers. MANY Plano teachers tutor on the side.
A lot of them meet at the library, their home or your home. Expect to pay cash, appx $50/hour (unless, you find a well qualified high school or college student)
Stick with someone in the PISD system so that your child is taught the way PISD teaches the fundamentals.
My daughter (16) tutors her boyfriend (17) in Honors Spanish. When she is babysitting for her regular clients, she "plays" school with the elementary children in Spanish. It helps daughter with her practice and the children she babysits benefit as well. She has been well compensated for adding that to her babysitting routine!
Good luck!
