Does anyone have any advice or info to offer about the Childs Study Center in Fort Worth Texas. I am taking my 9 yr old son in tomorrow for round one of testing. He was tested through his school when he was 5yrs and told he had adha and depression. He has been on concerta and has been managable over the yrs. NOw that he is in 2nd grade it is very apparent that he is way behind others his age...esp socially. He is very sensitive and has meltdowns on a regular basis...literaly beating himself up if he thinks he has disappointed me. Just wondering if anyone has any advice about this testing facillity.

What can I do next?

This is an excellent facility! A girl a have mentored for many years worked there for a couple years (funding shortage recently loosed her) and it was an amazing place. We were fortunate enought to have had a tour and meet some of the staff and students. Amazing.

When I realized my son was autistic I took him there. I walked in said I think my son is autistic (he was 2) and the doc said "yes". We proceeded to do a few tests (the same ones the school did a month later) I was given outdated information, told to get on a waiting list for ABA (I already was), told to read a book I'd already read. So in my case it wasn't helpful although your situation is different and perhaps you will get what you need.

I don't know about this testing facility, but you are doing the right thing intervening to help your son. I'm in Dallas and there are many schools for children with learning differences. You live in a great place to find the help you need for your son.

Good Luck!

OMG...my daughter does the same thing, she is doing great schoolwise...she reads, and has the best handwriting in her class...its even better than my husband's, but when she gets frustrated or gets in trouble during lunch and has to get her card pulled to red (which is bad) she has a complete meltdown, crying for over 30 minutes and tries to hide behind the teacher's desk and then finally calms down...we have been to the school several time and asked them to test her (adhd or dyslexia)...so they are in the process of doing so, it takes 4 weeks or so...but the assistant principal says....there is nothing wrong with her she may just be a late bloomer??? We are so frustrated and I'm starting to believe its a behaviorial issue...let me know if find any other resolution with this facility...we need the help FYI she is in 1st grade and will turn 7, March 14.
