Need to find someone who can treat my son, who was just recently diagnosed. He is 16 and also suffers from bi-polar disorder. I also need to find someone who can educate me on how to best help my son.

What can I do next?

This may not be quite the answer you're looking for, but modifying his diet might provide some improvement. For example, bipolar disorder has been associated with gluten intolerance (just google bipolar and gluten and you'll find tons of references).
There is a dietician in Plano area that has lots of experience (I think one of her degrees is in psychology) on looking at the impact of diet and similar problems (e.g. autism, etc.). Her name is Faye Elahi - her website is www.specialneedsnutrition.com.

There is also Dr. Block (www.blockcenter.com) in the mid-cities that specializes in treating folks with autism spectrum disorders. She is a world reknown expert on non-drug protocols for treating these problems. I think we're extremely lucky to have her in the area. She periodically has free educational seminars at her clinic.

As a personal note, I would have considered my older son on the autism spectrum as well, but since going on a GF/CF diet, he has really improved tremendously.

Best wishes.

Wow, I'm sorry your son has to deal with this kind of stuff. I've met other children with aspergers when working as a teacher.

I can only suggest that you talk to your son's school. Talk to the classroom teachers, spec ed teachers, counselors, and nurse. I hope they can offer you some help or guidance.

I think nutrition is very key. You might start buying all natural (no added hormones or antibiotics) meats and organic produce. The Cupboard in Denton carries all natural meats and produce. Sprouts Farmers Market in Flower Mound also has a good selection of organics. Even Walmart is starting to carry some! Also, glyconutrients have been known to really turn people's symptoms around. Check out www.glyconutrientsreference.com. A company called Mannatech sells a patented blend of glyconutrients called Ambrotose. There is an informational meeting about glyconutrients on April 7 at Dove Creek Animal Hospital on Teasley/Lillian Miller in Denton. Meeting is at 7:00.

Hi T.,
I just saw your posting from over a week ago in MamaSource.... my son has Asperger's and we go to Dr. Dante Burgos, a psychiatrist, in Dallas. There is another psychiatrist in Lewisville that other members of our group go to but I've forgotten his name. Email me back with your email address and I'll send it to our parent group and they'll be happy to give you names and numbers of dr.s they use.
Regards,
T.

Hello,

My younger brother is 27 and has aspergers. If you will respond to me with your e-mail address I will get you in touch with my mom and another friend who know a lot more than I do.
