H., please let me know more about the group-I am a special-needs parent advocate, and will gladly spread the word. Where areyou located? K.. ____@____.com
After being frustrated by the closest "Asperger's support group" being in Ann Arbor, I have started a support team which kinda doubles as a Parent talk while the kids get to know each other and "play" together. I am not at a point where I have scheduled the first get together and we have a small group of families. I started a yahoo group, but how else can I get the word out to more people that there is a local informal group? This isn't a business but the more families that get involved the richer the experience could be for the parents and the children.
I have several families interested and will let this build. We will be having our first meeting if anyone else is interested throw me a message! There were a lot of interesting suggestions. I hope we can help a few families feel a little less alone.

H. where are you located? I know that my daughter's school is putting together a support group for teens and the mom's get to support each other during the teens' time together. They are out of the Huron Valley schools, we haven't gone because we have been busy on the days that they meet. I would like to hear more.
Even though it is a great suggestion, I would avoid advertising on Craigslist ~ I have run into many people of questionable intentions on there.
I would start at Burger School in Garden City. Burger is the area's school for the autism spectrum. I would also contact Keeler Day Treatment in Redford. Keeler is a school for the emotional impaired such as ADHD/ADD, but several students have the Aspergar's diagnosis ~ my son being one of those students.
Contact your own school's Head of Social Work. You could also contact the local hospitals, as they are always being asked about local support groups ~ I know I contacted Beaumont in hopes of finding an ADHD/ADD and Aspergar's support group, but they did not have any information for me.
You could also contact Catholic Social Services.
As I think of more places, I will contact you with them. I belong to an on-line Mom group and if you send me your information I can post this on the website. There are several Moms who has kids who have been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, NLD, and all of these have the Aspergar's tendencies. There is also a Dad who has an Autistic daughter and where in the spectrum she is placed, I am unaware.
Also, Thank You ...
You can also join another group called Freecycle... western wayne freecycle group has a Cafe' group for chit chat. There are a couple of us with asperger kids there that chat with each other.
You can also put something in the Ann Arbor News if you wish and/or any of the observer newspapers....
the cafe for western wayne is.. westernwaynecafe... in yahoo groups.
Good luck
J.
PS.. to an earlier poster mentioning contacting Burger.. they may have their own support groups in place too that you could contact... My son attends Keeler and that isn't in place there. My son isn't the only asperger kid at Keeler, but I'm not sure how many more are there...
advertise on craigslist.
what your doing is really great!
