Hi D.. I haven't read any of your responses yet, and I could talk about these subjects for a long time, but I'll try to keep it short! :) I am a mom of 2 boys and a pediatric occupational therapist. I have worked with many, many children with Aspergers as well as ADHD. I also have a wellness business where I share education on nutrition and how what we eat(or don't eat) impacts our functioning. This is something I am very passionate about! You are on the right track with thinking about all of these topics and concerns you are having. It can be overwhelming!
I would certainly look at his diet and work to make changes there.
A few good websites related to diet and behavior: http://www.drgreene.com/21_1796.html

I also recommend Omega 3 supplementation (Nordic Naturals appears to have the strictest/most thorough testing for purity/quality, etc) as well as a whole food fruit and veggie concentrate, Juice Plus+. Increasing antioxidants naturally with raw fuits and veggies such as that found in Juice Plus (17 different fruits/veg daily) can make a huge impact on immune response, overall health, assisting in overall functioning. This is crucial, especially if your children are missing these phytonutrients in their diets on a regular basis. LEarn more at www.HamreHealth.com
Also - your 7 year-old can get Juice Plus for free with a study currently going on. Email me for details!
I do know of some families that have been very pleased with DAN doctors. I would give it a try!
I also know of families who have seen good results with chiropractic care. I've seen good results with my 6 yo.
I would also look at some sensory processing resources to address self-regulation, etc. www.alertprogram.com (How does your engine run?) The out of Sync Child and there are others - you can do a search or email me for more resources! I've gotta run - sorry!
Best of luck to you. Remember you are the mom and you know your child best. Baby steps and lots of love!
Please let me know if you have any questions or want to talk!
