Asking pre-K Parents for Yarn Donation for Teacher Blanket?

I am thinking about crocheting a blanket for my son's pre-K teacher using yarn chosen by each child in his class (10 children). I would give each parent a note explaining my plan along with the description of the type of yarn and a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby (which is very close to the school--convenient). The cost would be around 2 or 3 dollars per child.

With the blanket, I would include a note about the blanket explaining which color each student chose for the blanket along with any sentiments from the children and parents.

Do you think this is a good idea?

What can I do next?

Absolutely!
Great idea!

(p.s. Even if someone does not contribute, please include their name on the card, etc. We never know the reason, but it always seems to happen....could be financial, organizational issues, etc. but I would make sure all kids are included/represented.)

I think that sounds cute... If I were a parent I would buy into this project. That's very nice and meaningful. I can just see all the kids telling her which yarn color they selected. :-)

I love it. These are the kinds of gifts a teacher can use and will love. way better than a million mugs lol

maybe make a note on their that you are willing to get the yarn for anyone not able to do it. and include a cost that way if there are parents who would rather just write a check you can get whatever color matches what your doing.

Thumbs up! I am always so worried that what we give the teachers will end up, well, in the trash or at goodwill because it could cause so much clutter. I think a gift like this is one that will keep her warm for many years to come with the knowledge that she was appreciated which isn't shown so much these days.

I bet teachers down the road will be looking for one also!

Totally do that, and include all the children's names cause you just don't know what the $ situation is at home. You may end up getting yarn donated from avid knitters/crocheters.

I would think this is a good idea. But I would include in the note that if each child cannot bring a donation to still fill out the paper so their name can be included. I could not afford to buy yarn, as much as I'd like to I would rather spend that $2-$4 on a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread for the kids meals. You can just say that the different greens in the blanket was choosen by X, X, X, X, and X because it is their favorite color and the loved X, X, and X when she taught them that color. Mentioning craft or visual aids from that week would make it more personal. Same with the other colors. If there is a yarn that is so distinct that is stands out I would lightly mention that child and why they chose that particular one. Otherwise I would keep the info more general.
