Hi, I am a single mother of three that just relocated down here from Nebraska in June. I have a brother who has been here for 10 years though. I used the mysanantonio.com to find my home. It is in the NorthCentral part which is great. The Northwest and Northeast sides are good too. The Northwest side has cheaper living but still nice areas. My choice to live in Northcentral was so I could be closer to my brother and his family but the difference in rental price for a home is like $200-$300 per month. If you only have one child though, you could get by with an apartment for sure. There are some really nice ones but I don't know if you are wanting a house or apartment or what.
My kids have a babysitter that comes to our house which is great. I found them on craigslist.com. I posted an ad and they responded. They are sisters. There are a lot of daycares here but if your daughter is use to an in-home, I would try to find that again. There are a lot of those too. You can get a list of them with addresses and phone numbers through the mysanantonio.com site. If you are working downtown, I would try to find something a little closer for housing. There are some nice apartment complexes closer to downtown that are in safe neighborhoods. If you live out a ways and have to get to work in the a.m. with school started now, it could take a while to get there everyday and get home. That can be really frustrating unless you have the time and don't mind sitting in your car. I had to drive downtown from North 281 past Stone Oak Parkway a few times in the morning. I had to be there at 8:00a.m. and it took me 45 minutes one day and 35 minutes the next. If there were no traffic it would only take 20 minutes but the traffic down here is horrible. The rush hour traffice at the end of the day is even worse and can take an hour to get home. That's another reasone why I like having my babysitter come to my home so that my kids don't have to sit in the car for that long. Anyway, good luck with everything. I hope everything turns out okay.
