why not make the box into a tank or a helicopter. If it is for the army's birthday, you could use an older model tank or helicopter.
My daughter just moved up to the Pre K class at her daycare this month. The daycare is on an Army post (hubby is in Army National Guard), so to celebrate the Army's birthday the Pre K class is going to have a parade. Parents are supposed to build a box float for their child to hold/wear in the parade. I need decorating ideas!!! :)
Basically, a box float is a box big enough to fit around your child's waist, with the top & bottom cut out so that they can stand in it. So, the 4 sides are around them & you decorate the sides.
She has her own Army PT's (grey shirt & black shorts with the reflective ARMY letters, just like a real soldier) so I might have her wear that. Wish we had her own camo uniform, but they are too expensive & I won't have time to make one.
What are some ideas for decorating?? I am pretty crafty, so I should be able to handle putting it together. Perhaps I can put several ideas together into one. Thanks!! Oh & I will let you all know what I decide to do, and maybe share a photo!
(PS The parade will be on June 18, so I've got until then to get it ready!)

The army tank is a pretty good idea. If your husband has any old uniforms u could make her and outfit out of it. You could make her a tree with a yellow ribbon on it. If you have any question or may need any materials I maybe able to help. I have my old acu's. I'll try to think of more ideas and get back to you if i think of anything.
I also say a tank or helicopter, or a bomber plane or something. Put American flags jutting out from the top. Let her wear a cute little pillbox type hat, the vintage army style kind, or little sparkly bows like fireworks in her hair.

You could put a cardboard pointy nose, wings, and tail on it and make her a pilot. Might be easier than a helicopter.
In first grade my husband and son went as a Marine and a tank for Halloween. Hubby took a big box, decorated it with grean/black/brown spray paints. ON top of that he had a smaller box, same color scheme, then out of the smaller box he stuck a wrapping paper tube, spray painted to be cammie. Then he put camo paint on my son and dressed him in an old pair of cammies, don't forget the cover.
We cut arm holes out of one of the boxes. You could do it with one box too.
My first thought was making it a 2-3 tiered birthday cake. White 'icing' with army green trim piping. She can be the little girl popping out of the cake.
