I know this is real weird but one of my armpits is real, real sore has this ever happened to anyone else??? I thought maybe it was caused by my deoderant, but I'm not sure. Its not the skin itself that hurts, it feels like its down inside (maybe nyphnode)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone I don't feel like a complete weirdo now... I have called my doctor about it and I'm waiting for a return call. I'm running a lowgrade temp too, so I probably just have a virus or something and since I've already have mono twice in my lifetime, maybe its rearing its ugly head again who knows. Thanks again ladies. ((( UPDATE)))) My doc called back, said its probably viral, my fever is gone today and so is the soreness, thank-goodness!!!

I agree with everyone who says call or see a Doctor. There is a reason as others have said. I know that anti-perspirants can cause this because they stop the sweating and the lymphnode could be infected as others have talked about. But regardless, call or see a doctor - it could be nothing much or something that needs to be treated ASAP. Infections can spread rapidly if in lymphnodes, already. Best of luck.

That's happened to me a couple of times. The last was when I used my step daughters strawberry deodorant. I looked it up on the internet then, and it just said it's was an infected hair gland. I use Dove deodorant now, and it hasn't happened again.
Try washing and airing out, use a gentle deodorant...if it doesn't go away, call the Dr.

If it lasts for more than a week or two, please see a doctor. I know that I may be a bit paranoid, but my mother in law passed away from breast cancer, and that was one of the problems she had. The worst thing that can happen is you get there and they tell you it's just your deodorant and please switch brands.

You may want to do a self exam to see if you find any thing amiss.

I would call your doctor-- you might have a virus or something, but sore lymphnodes should probably be checked out.

It could be an infected bland or even an ingrown hair. I agree though call your doc after a week if it hasn't gone away. Better to be safe than sorry. Especially since it seems quite sore. Hope you feel better. I would also take advil for the pain since it has that whole anti-inflammatory benefit.

Hi H.!
I would encourage you to seek your doctors opinion about your problem. About 10 years ago, I also had a sore armpit. It hurt more at night then during the day. It wasn't a skin thing, the pain felt deeper than that. After about three weeks, I noticed a lump high up in my armpit while shaving. It was to high to be breast tissue related. I ended up going to the doctor and was eventually diagnosed with Hodgkins disease (a blood related cancer that is found in the lymph nodes). It was the day of my 29th birthday. I was stunned. I had never been ill before and I was young. How could I have cancer of all things. I don't mean to scare you. I have no medical training or knowledge other than from my own experience. I'm certain there could be dozens of things that cause armpit pain that have nothing to do with cancer. I just wanted to tell you not to take it lightly. Go to the doctor. Good luck!
P.S. After 6 months of chemo, I was cancer free. That was 10 years ago. I even now have a 2 1/2 year old son and I am expecting another in August.

H., I had it once too. Went to the doctor w/a small lump in my pit that was terribly painful the more I let it go on. Come to find out I had an infection in one of my pores in the underarm. Doc said shaving with a razor that has bacteria on it (from being left in the shower) causes it. Put me on antibiotics, and it was gone. Now I store my razor in a dry place!! See your doc, and best of luck.

I have had this happen before on two different occasions. I'm not sure what the cause is, but the soreness went away after a couple of days.

I also encourage you to call your doc just to double check. We can't be too careful! The deodorant reaction, swollen gland due to illness, ingrown hair, are all very real possibilities. I have another idea to throw in the mix. Are you on or near your period? My breasts and some times underarm glands get swollen and tender often the week before thru the week of my period. Cutting down on salt and caffeine help me,BUT I saw the doctor about it first. :) Hope this helps, take care.

Twice when I was young I had lymph node infection but it was in my groin. Maybe what you have. I would have a doctor look at it. My friend had breast cancer and lymph nodes and she felt little lumps there. I think you could got get a massage and they massage the and try to get the lymph nodes to empty.
Good Luck, may just need an antibotic. G. W

I sometimes get the same problem. It's like a cysist.
When you shave and then use your deorderent right after sometimes it can get infected. Can you feel a little bump?Does it hurt when you lift your arm above your head?
After you shower take a hot washcloth and put it under your arm where the sore is. After you do that and the washcloth gets cold put a little presure on the bump and and push each time a little hard until it pops and it will releave the pain. After a couple of weeks if that doesn't help then check with the doctor.

Hope this helps

Go have that checked by a doctor!! Now!!! It could be a lymph node, and that is not cool...it also could be an infection...like a pore or something is clogged and has gotten infected...if it is, you would most likely need antibiotics or to have the area lanced or something...is it red? Swollen? A lump? Hot? Call your doctor!!!

I cant say that I have had it, but one time my mother had a really sore spot under hers, after about a week or two, it turned into a bump, she went to the Dr. and ended up having a staff infection, they treated it and gave her some antibiotics and everything was fine.

I had that once, my glands were infected from a virus, I got really sick about a week afterward. It is like when you get a sore throat and your glands get enlarged and hurt. If it doesn't go away I would see your doctor, and if you get sick (like a flu in a week or so- that might be what this is)

have you had a shot or anything? last time I had my tetnus shot updated that happened to me. I had swelling in my one underarm and it was tender. It lasted about 4 days then went away. I asked my doctor about it and she seemed to think it was due to my body trying to fight off what it perceieved as a threat.
If it doesn't go away after a few days, I would go have it checked out because the lymphnode system is tricky.

My armpits got really sore when I was pregnant, it sounds exactly like what you said, where it feels like the lymph node inside were bruised. Mine would swell up(sometimes marble size other times walnut size) and I could barely put my arms down to my side and I could definately feel a bump. I showed my OB and she didn't seem concerned at all. It would come and go, but I only got them when I was pregnant. I would drink a lot more water; in my mind I said it was to flush out my system. It seemed to help. Good luck.
