It's a very good movie, especially when you consider that this based upon reality.
I also thought about Benghazi while I was watching. I can't even imagine the fear and horror they felt.
It's not a movie for young kids.
Have you seen it? What did you think about it?

So unbelievably surprised to hear that someone thought it was boring. My jaw literally dropped open when I read that, lol. I thought it was a very well made movie about a very interesting story that REALLY HAPPENED. And a documentary? Um...no....it wasn't a documentary at all. It was a movie, with a storyline and you follow the characters around and watch how they came up with the idea. Did they take artistic license when filming? Maybe, probably, though my understanding is that they worked to keep the story true...but I found it fascinating. It was in my lifetime, but I was too young to understand or really know what was happening back then. My husband is older and it made for interesting conversation after the movie over coffee. I thought the concept was very novel, and was impressed that it was true.
In 1997 I was kicked out of Albania when someone's pyramid scheme collapsed and everyone (EVERYONE) had bought into it---it had been communist longer than any other country then, and the former leader boasted "more communist" than any other back then, so there was noone around that knew much of anything about the West anymore. Even the educated people had only been educated under the communist system so everyone, even government officials, fell for the pyramid scheme some American brought over right after communism fell. I went immediately after it fell also, because I wanted to see for myself what it was like (my thinking was that we're TAUGHT that communism is bad but they are TAUGHT that capitalism is bad.....I wanted to see for myself, before it had time to change much, what was true). The little bit of time from when they made the announcements demanding foreigners leave and the guns started firing, riding on backroads with huge potholes and hitting the airport with just my backpack (suitcase was mailed to me later by people I stayed with)....it was an adventure and exciting (because I was young and didn't have family to think about) but it kind of gave me a tiny, tiny idea of what it may be like to be trying to escape. ANYTHING but boring. If you haven't seen it, watch it! I liked it. But then I like history, anyway. I would vote for this to be best movie of the year. Not best movie ever, but best of 2012, yes.
It was awesome. Now that all my fingernails have grown back, I'm ready to see it again! My favorite movie last year.
Nope. I have a hard time seeing movies that were based on real events....since I already know how it turns out.
My best friend saw it and loved it. She's a HUGE Ben Affleck fan. Said that it would be a "winner" for the Oscars...
I thought it was so very well done. I remember the actual crisis and how we all lived through it - this really showed what it was like (in a small way) for those involved. It was a horrible time. It brought down Carter's reelection bid, and I thought it was so fascinating to see what went on behind the scenes and how people put country before ambition. The real man played by Ben Affleck was an advisor on the film, which I think helped it be true to history. On a "Hollywood" note, I think John Goodman played well against type - similar to what he did in "Flight" with Denzel Washington. So there was a lot to appreciate.
Saw it, loved it . . . surprised at some of the "sources and methods" that came out in the movie.
It's also interesting how, according to the movie, the US utilizes NGO's and do-gooder organizations for covert purposes. But of course that would never happen in real life. :)
Excellent movie - well worth seeing.
Absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!!
It has impeccable split second timing, with great actors, great script, great music.
I want my husband to watch it with me.
I thought it was indeed one of the best movies of the year. The story is not told documentary style at all, you are following the major players in this story based on true events. The Hollywood portion is actually pretty funny, too.
I think I've seen every nominated movie except Silver Linings Playbook and Argo is my favorite of 2012 to this point.
Yep, it was really good, husband liked it too.
I saw it. It was interesting and more of a documentary than entertainment. My son hated it, he thought is was boring. My husband really liked it since it was our teen time when all that happen. I have give it a grade of A for interesting and history.
Hubby and I just watched it the other night. I was not look forward to watching it (It was one he picked out, lol) but I was pleasantly surprised. I definitely enjoyed it.
Loved it. So many familiar scenes as I remember them from the real footage.
A true sign of a great film is it is still a nail biter even through you know the outcome.
Excellent. My 13-year-old son loved it too, but he is a spy and history buff. It uses the F-word a lot so it's not a movie for young children. I had warned him about that in advance.
