Are Too Many X Rays Bad?

My daughter has had 5 xrays in the last 3 months. Two for rsv and pneumonia, 2 for some colon blockage, and then 1 barium enema. I know there are risks with xrays on anyone and that it can damage your DNA and lower your white cell count. My daughter is only 2 years old, should I be worried about all those xrays in such a short amount of time? I may just be paranoid but it is a total fear of mine that these x rays could have caused her some issues.

What can I do next?

There is a small risk from repeated x-rays, but undiagnosed pneumonia, RSV, and colon blockage would be much more risky for a young child.

That is quite a few xrays on such a small child. You are right to be concerned. There's nothing you can do now about the ones she's already had, but the next time something comes up I would advocate for an alternative diagnostic test, such as ultrasound, if possible.

That level of radiation to a child won't do anything! It's more media hype than anything about the amount of radiation that we can be exposed to before anything happens to our bodies. The workers in Japan are being exposed to levels of radiation that are millions of times higher that what's in one xray and they still consider that safe to work with. Also, most people don't know but CT scans and MRIs have as much as 400 times the amount of radiation as an xray and they are performed on kids all the time! (Think about the poor kids that have cancer and other problems that require that kind of care regularly.) I totally agree with the other mama who said that it's more dangerous to not get a problem diagnosed properly and treated than it is to have those imaging studies done. Really, don't worry. And there's no reason (or real way) to detox her either.

I hope your little girl is feeling better soon!! :)

There may be some increased risk, but at the same time she had conditions that needed xrays at the time to be checked. You can always ask the doctor if there is an alternative, but I wouldn't worry too much, sometimes you just need them.

Selenium is the antidote. You will have to find out what the pediatric vitamin dose, given over a month, is or get a 200c homeopathic. Give that once and three weeks later.
All those X-Rays have now been implicated in cancer. Selenium removes the radiation from the body.
Do not worry once you dose her she will not have lasting effects.

You can get more info from your doctor and more info from other sources, but my understanding is that xray use should be limited in everyone and especially for small children. There are some studies that suggest that exposure in infancy, for example, can lead to higher rates of cancer. I would certainly discuss the number of xrays in a short time with whoever prescribes them.
