Are Toddler Knees Dirty Forever?

My daughter just turned one and began to walk. She is all over the place, loves getting dirty in the sand, climbing on the playground gym or slide stairs....
She ends up the day very dirty. I bath her everyday because she is so dirty, but her knees still look dirty after the bath. I don't want to scrub to hard but would like them to look clean from time to time!
I never had this issue with my son because he hates being dirty or wet and was always a quiet child, preferring sitting and making a sand castle than digging the sand with bare hands.
Any tips on how to clean those knees or shall I wait until she hits a princess phase or her teenage?

What can I do next?

Greetings G., I have to say as the mother of 5, with one being a very active girl-- that those knees will be fine i no time and you will miss the days of her youth and how she played.
I have a grandchild that is as busy as it gets and it always amazes me that no matter how dirty and hard she plays her smile will win hearts and her excitment of life is wonderful-- she cleans up real well too!

Lol... I had to giggle on that one because I think most of us have looked at our kids and wondered the same thing. I think that keeping her knees moisturized might help. The dirt and yuck seems to really get stuck in dry skin and then you almost just have to wait for it to naturally slough off. (Oh that sounds so gross!) But after a while of keeping that skin hydrated there wont be as many dry spots where the dirt can get stuck.
Good luck!
Christi :)

You might try putting a little peroxide on a cotton ball and wipe on her knees.

Ha, ha! I got a good chuckle out of your question cuz I have an almost 5 year old son who has gray knees! He's like Pigpen from The Peanuts Gang! All the other kids leave the park relativley clean but not my son....pant knees ripped, dirt-smudged face, filhty shirt & sometimes, mud-caked shoes. I say it's a sign he's having a good time. So, I'll be curios to see if any other moms have good ideas to remove the gray! I usually let him soak a few minutes before washing & then scrub w/just my hand. If they're more dity than usual, I might use a wash cloth w/a bit of force on the knees. Good luck!

When I was a little girl and we played outside in the summer for hours on end, my mother would sit us up on the edge of the kitchen sink and scrub our knees -- with Comet! (I will add the disclaimer frequently seen on tv -- do not try this at home...)

My girls are pretty rough and tumble, and yep, their knees are forever dirty! We have used a bath pouf with some soap on it. That seems to work pretty well.

this will probably happen until about 12 but in all honesty peroxide on her knees might to it.

LOL, my daughter is 12 and still has dirty knees! She's athletic and wears shorts every day. I stopped worrying about it years ago.

Your daughter sounds like my kind of kid! I was always digging in the dirt, and most of the kids I've worked with over the years have liked digging in dirt better than playing with toys. I like the idea given of keeping the knees moisturized. I wouldn't try scrubbing the dirt off too much as that can become painful. Don't worry too much about how her knees look. She probably doesn't care, and I doubt if anyone is going to judge you harshly because your daughter's knees provide proof that she is having a lot of fun in life.

I have two of those! I never was able to get their knees fully clean, but I like the idea of moisturizer. I could have used that tip 10 years ago! Both of my girls looked like they were neglected and abused as toddlers. Always grubby (except after bathtime at night when there are few witnesses!), and with at least one bump or bruise somewhere. They are still very athletic and active now they are teens, but at least their knees are clean!

You might try a little alcohol and some cotton balls.

my mom used to have issues with our elbows. She used to rub vaseline in over and over and slowly work the dirt out without making us look raw.
I have never tried it on knees though
