Are Salt Crystal Lamps All They're Creacked up to Be?

Lately I've been seeing salt crystal lamps for sale and wonder if they really do the things they say they do. They supposedly work as a natural air purifier killing bacteria, removing dust, allergens, odors and mold spores. They are supposed to help you breath and sleep better by producing negative ions. They are supposed to relieve symptoms of asthma, allergies, migraines and snoring. Does anyone have one of these lamps and do they really work? I'd love to hear your experiences. As of yet, I haven't done much research, but I will. I almost bought one last night but couldn't bring myself to do it without checking into them some more.

I got one for my mom. It says it does it does all that stuff but I doubt it's true. They make a great nightlight tho. My mom's had her for about 4 years now. She's doing fine but I don't think it's because of the salt crystal, wish it was tho.

I LOVE my Himalayan salt rock lamp! Now as far as relieving all the symptoms you listed, I didn't buy my lamp for that reason....it wasn't even advertised for that. I bought mine bc at the time, we lived in a house that was over 150 years old and I could NOT get the old house smell out, no matter what I tried. I bought the rocks and after a week, the smell was gone. Plus it gives off a beautiful soft glow....I'l probably buy a small one to put in the nursery to serve as a nightlight once the baby comes =o )

I have one. I think it does help recycle moisture back in the air. The only reason I say this is because my salt lamp is sitting on my dresser. When I leave shirts or socks near it while it's on, they feel ever so slightly damp to the touch after the lamp has been on for a couple of hours. I don't notice this when it's left off. The added moisture may help with the breathing and nasal problems in general (esp in the winter with the dry heat), but my husband still snores. And I still have allergies. They are beautiful to look at, and I love mine for that reason. I would say not to spend a lot of money on it if you want to try it. I got mine at Walmart.com for about $25.
