Are All Kindergarten Programs in All Schools in PA Only Half Day?

I just recently moved to Easton, PA (Bethlehem twp.) from NJ (originally from NY) and called up my son's soon-to-be public school to ask about their kindergarten program which he will be attending next year. He has gone to pre-school the past two years and daycare before that. He is definitely ready to go for a full day of kindergarten but the school told me they only have half day programs. Are all schools around here like that? I know NY has full day kindergarten. Just wondering if I have an option! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Not sure if you would consider private school...St. Jane's in Easton is full day kindergarten.

Hi L.-

A friend of mine is a Kindergarten teacher in Northampton School District and she teaches a full day program. Some districts have it...and unfortunately some don't. She lives in the Parkland School District and could only send her son to half day b/c that is what they offered. She too hoped for a full day program b/c she sees how great her own program is. So...I don't know how to go about finding where the full day programs are...but PA does have them out there!
Good luck!

You could always go to a daycare that has an acredited kindergarten, then start him in 1st grade in the public school system. I know that the YMCA has an acredited kindergarten in your area. You will have to pay for it though. I am also from NY to NJ to PA. I know the schools are a bit different out here.

They do exist in PA, but you can't attend a public school outside of your district, so you would have to do private. St. Jane's is great and full day, they also may have programs to help with costs. Many schools here only have half day programs b/c our area grew so quickly that the school can not accomodate all those kids for a full day, they would have to expand schools and hire more teachers which they don't have the money for. Eventually it will be mandatory, but for now, it is what is is. Good luck.
