Apps for Kid Tablets

I just found out my in-laws bought my kids each a tablet for Christmas. I'm not thrilled, but that's another story. My daughter is 3 and my son is 6. I'm told the tablets run on Google Play.

We let them play on our smart phones sometimes and they both like Clumsy Ninja and Rail Rush. I would like to get some educational apps and some fun games for each of them. They are both pretty sensitive so the games can't be violent or too realistic, I know sometimes that is hard to tell unless I play through myself. Temple Run was a little too scary for them. I've heard good things about Minecraft but I don't know much about it. Any advice would be great, I'm way over my head!

My kids love Minecraft. It's the only app I've ever bought for them. Think of a big electronic lego set, and that's minecraft.

Here are some free apps they like:
fruit ninja
flow free (puzzle solving, you can get all levels, and I like it too)
where's my water
they used to love angry birds, but they are mostly past that one
I also have a bunch of educational ones. I search 'free toddler' or "free 2nd grade math" or something like that, and see what I can find. I have a bunch of apps where you touch the animal and it makes the sound, or you have to identify the animal. And a toddler shapes app, where the child has to identify the shapes to get electronic stamps. I also have some book apps, where the book reads itself and has some associated games. I'm not sure of the exact name, sorry, I found them just by searching free toddler apps.

These are on iTunes, but I'm guessing Google Play probably has a lot of the same apps.

My MIL would do something like this :-)

Remember, the tablets might be theirs but you still set the rules. I think it's a huge waste of money, personally. I mean they're not going to use 90% of the features. But you didn't pay for them, so there you go.

My kids borrow my IPad and like to play Subway Surfer and Minion Rush. They are both basically the same idea as Temple Run but not scary. I admit, I'm a bit addicted to Candy Crush Saga.

If they liked temple run there is a kids version called Minion Rush that stars the minions off despicable me. My boys are obsessed with Minecraft, actually most the local kids here are.

Toca Boca do make great apps. :) my 3yo dd especially loves Toca Builders and Toca Doctor.

I just downloaded another free one, called Play123 that she likes a lot too.

Max and Ruby Science is a good one too.

Bugs and Buttons.

Injini (the app itself is pretty pricy, but the free lite version is all I use and my dd has enjoyed it for over a year now...)
