If she is registered at any stores, pick something from there. Otherwise, a WalMart gift card would be nice.

Ask her if she's registered anywhere first. That's the stuff she wants most.

Our budget generally can't handle the stuff people put on their registries, so we usually give unusual, artsy candle holders and candles.

K.,
I think giving the things that are used often are the best. I loved receiving and now give for wedding gifts either bath towels, sheets, silverware, etc. After 8 1/2 years I still use these things on a daily basis, so I figure it's best to give what you enjoy (& since I'm not a cook, those things are more essential to me). If she has a registry, then you can select from that, if not, go with basic colors like cream towels or sheet set or just a modern pattern silverware set. Best of luck in your search for a great gift.

Hi K.!

Someone else has suggested using your future sister-in-law's registry, assuming she has one. I too did one and it was NOT used, thus we got a bunch of people's cast offs. We tried returning them but no one is going to take back an avacado green electric skillet! It had probably been in this elderly lady's basement for over 20 years. HA!

I ran across an ad in "Mother Earth News" for a website that sells handmade items...www.etsy.com. I glanced at it once and have decided to buy from them sometime.

There are some really cool, abstract paintings on ebay for only 13.99 that you could frame. Here is the link:

or you can search for Henry Muse (he's the artist)

To me, Home Depot or Lowe's gift cards are wonderful! Folks are always wanting to decorate, paint, new blinds, etc., and they can pick what they want. Even put it towards new fixtures. So many younger folks don't do the traditional china thing any more and have all the basics needed. This way they can get and really use the gift that they choose.

If she is registered anywhere - I would recommend staying with the gift registry. Get her something special off of it like a really nice vase or serving piece. Unfortunately, when I got married, lots of people strayed from the registry and we got some crazy stuff that really didn't suit our tastes or our needs. If you choose a special piece off the registry, she will still remember what you gave her AND it will be something you know she wants. After over 13 years, I still remember who gave us our serving pieces and I think of them every time I get them out.

I see you've already decided what to give, but something we got was an electric skillet - a brand new one, hee hee. The gift took us a bit off guard, but we use it a TON and it makes it easier to stir fry or to cook french toast, so it's one of the best wedding gifts we ever got. We gave one in turn to a friend of mine when she got married, and they use it a lot, too.
