My 7 yr old is asking for "Socker Boppers" for Christmas. Until I saw them in a store recently, I was not sure what they are all about. If you have/ or have not purchased them for you kids, I want to hear your feedback. I'm looking more for constructive feedback, no soap boxes please, Thank you

P.S. I have 2 very active and physical boys, ages 7 and 5

What can I do next?

Its for 6-13 years old.

Try reading the reviews of it on Amazon.

I have 2 kids that are 6 and 10. They are very active.
I am imagining them playing with it. And I can also imagine... them or at least one of them, falling down laughing or crying... from being "pushed" or punched with it even if in fun.
I dunno.

My suggestion would be to check the reviews of the product on Amazon or some other selling site. Just skimming, it looks like the main complaint is leaks/puncture.

I think you also have to have rules around 'no hitting heads' etc. One poster on another site mentioned nosebleeds. Not fun. The other caution was that the kids hands can get sweaty and cause the toy to stick, and if the parent pulls too hard to take off the toy, the child's shoulder or elbow could be dislocated.

They are retro actually. My cousins and a neighbor had them when I was little. Like already mentioned, more like a pillow fight but I would set rules--like you cannot wear them and hit somone not playing. Of course, that goes without saying all the time. :)

I am laughing as I picture my 2 boys with socker boppers bopping the
#$%^ out of eachother! I would personally buy them but I am not the kind of mom that restricts playful violence :-) If you are, then no. If you are ok with the roughhousing that will ensue then go for it.

I think they are great! my boys are a year and a half apart (now 7 and 8) and have had a blast with those and boxing gloves...along with pillow fights. an OT my son had when young explained how rough housing is actually really good for little boys and it made sense. these types of pillowy things soften it up and are a lot of fun :-)

I hate that type of toy, however, as long as you set up rules it can be fine. They can only play in this room if they are both wearing their red jerseys or something like that. I have found OUTFIT to be just as important as place, as outfit you have to prepare for and you won't have one kid smacking another kid when they walk into that room, but it will be a planned event type thing. It also makes it so they know there are times and places to hit each other, lol.
