I'm looking for Christmas presents for my 9 year old nephew who LOVES to play video games. Unfortunately, the games he would prefer to play are not very educational (Donkey Kong and Star Wars). Does anyone know of video games similar to these that are educational too? Any help would be great. Thank you!

There are no educational toys for kids that are over 7-8 years old. As I understand it so many different schools teach academics differently after that age that they can hurt a child's learning ability if they are learning it differently than the teacher is teaching the same skill.

Kids of this age are in school up to 7 1/2 to 8 hours per day and have at least an hour of homework every day. So playing fun games is more of a stress release than anything else. They need to be able to have fun and play. They don't get time to play anymore and really really need it.

So please don't focus so much on educational games but on games that are less violent and more of a fun nature so he can play and destress.

It has the same kind of vivid graphics as starwars, quirky humor that this age group really likes (don't fall in the lava! Oh. You appear to have broken the sensor. I'll re-calibrate it for your.... generous-ness. There, there, there, No! Squished! A talking potato. Jump boots. Talking robots. No blood. No guts. Fun. Fun.)
