Hello Moms . . . my husband and I are about to re-do our kitchen and are looking into purchasing a used fridge (possibly from CL). Reason being, we are hoping to put our house on the market in the next 2-4 years and I really don't want to invest over $1,000 in a fridge. Anyway, my question(s) are, what fridge brand do you have and what are the pros or cons? Do you know of a website I could visit that gives free consumer reports on brands? I have heard through our friends that GE's have had a lot of problems with the "mother boards" so thinking I should stay away from them but again, need to do the research. Any advise or thoughts are appreciated.

What can I do next?

We just got a new KitchenAid, and I love it, but haven't had it long enough to report on it. You could go on google or yahoo and put in refridgerator reviews or reports, and you'll get a lot. My husband does that when we are getting ready to buy something and he usually gets lots of info. Good luck!

We had an Amana before our remodel and had pretty good luck with it. We still use it as a secondary fridge (its 7 years old). We replaced it with a Kitchen Aid and we're happy with it so far, but its only about 6 mos old.

My home has whirlpool and I have had so many issues. Within 6 months our ice maker stopped dispensing Ice, it makes it but you have to open the door to get to it - I know of at least 4 other homes in our neighborhood that have had the same issue as well. The fridges freezes everything, even when its set on the warmest setting. I will never ever purchase whirlpool again.

Ours is a Whirlpool and it's been running fine for about 9 years. Fairly easy to get parts. Nothing fancy, but works for a family.

Not so much a fridge brand but see if there is a Sears outlet by you. Mine is a Kenmore, not bad, doesn't get me going mind you, but we got it for around 900 off because of a little ding on the side. I can assure you my kids have added plenty of little dings to it since. They have some great deals.

I don't know much about brands... ours is a whirlpool (about the cheapest big side by side), we got it over 4 years ago and it's going strong. The thing to keep in mind though is that you won't have many choices if you buy used and they keep getting more energy efficient, so it will cost you a lot more to run if it's older. I second the sears dents area, I think they even have a place on line to see what they have that is damaged! good luck!

I have a Kitchen Aid, pretty much top of the line but I love the higher end Kitchen Aid products.

There are LOTS of deals out there for less than $1000 for new fridges. About 10 yrs ago we bought a smaller sized Hotpoint from Best Buy for about $400 to keep in the garage. That thing is still going strong, has outlived the lemon high end Maytag I had!!

Also, there are appliance outlets with deals that are very reasonable and then you have something new and not what very well could be someone else's problem.

I stay away from GE and Maytag personally. My kitchen is high end Kitchen Aid products.

Good luck!
