I said no to the shot. My doctor said he was not thrilled with it yet, because it has only been out for a year and this is just a newer version of one that didn't work.
I'm curious if anyone watched the show? Has anyone said no to having there children not be given the MMR shot?

I think you should question everything that goes into your child's body- especially vaccines. It is a careless statement to say that measles & mumps are worse than other diseases that the MMR is linked to. You can go by what the "doctors" say or by the REAL LIFE PARENTS who have seen it happen to their child, no doubt, complete fact. Someday indeed the CDC may have to come out with a statement saying "we were wrong. There IS a link." Do you want your child to be part of their trials right now, because they are still trying to see if there is a link- they are NOT saying there isn't a link. They just don't know.
Parents need to be informed of the benefits and RISKS before they decide. Vaccinating your child is a choice, not a requirement. If you think they can't get in to school without vaccines, if you think you can't separate the vaccines, can't ask for just one shot per visit, can't ask to delay until baby is older, then you have not done enough research. Kudos to you, M. for being concerned.

I didn't watch the show but I found the following resources helpful:

It is a choice that you have as a parent. Most people don't realize this. Do the research and make your own decision. Only you can know what is best for your family.
I didn't see the show... but I think it's irresponsible parenting to not protect your child from something that could be lethal.
A child has to have MMR before entering school to protect themselves and other children.

Hi M.--yes, I did see the show. I have always wondered about the shots being linked to Autism, and I am glad she had the cojones to say that aloud on Nat. TV! There was an article in Rolling Stone several yrs. ago, and it basically did the research over years and linked the Preservative to the increased cases of Autism, and the Govt.'s tryiong to hide that. There has to be a reason why so many kids have it these days vs. when we were all kids. I agree with the other moms, though too and you have to make the best decision for you and your kids. Thanks for opening this forum, I will check out the links from the other moms.
Our friend's son is autistic and when we were taking our son in for vaccines they suggested not getting the shot. Well I talked it over in length with the Doctor and the more time I spend with Doctor's the more I observe patterns in how they function. We were going to ask to have the shots administered seperately because what I understand it was thought to be the preservative in the MMR that allowed all three to be given at the same time. My Doctor told me that the shot did not cause autism but that the preservative had been removed from the shots- hmmm, if it was not the cause why did they remove it??? We got the shot.
I read Jenny's article in the People- I don't know how I feel about it. I would like to hear from people that have more experience with autism because her experience is so different than our friend's but maybe it is because she has money!
Think about it--if the MMR shot does cause autism then why do they still give it--nothing links the 2 together other than coincidence. It is much safer to get the shot than to have your kids get measles, mumps or rubella.but they are your kids and you have to take care of them either way
I am wondering if it's optional? Because if it is, my daughter and son will NOT be getting their "booster" for it. My son I did not notice any reaction really, but a week after my daughter got hers, she had a 105.5 fever and a horrible reaction to it (white blood cell count was waaaaay too high). So if it's optional, I definately won't have them get the booster MMR.
Check out www.adventuresinbabywearing.com she talked about it at length.
The thing about the MMR is that you really don't want your kids to get those diseases. Before you decide to bag it all together find out if penicillin does work for them, or what sort of long term effects there will be on your kids if they do catch measles mumps or rubella. Or if you have any grandparents still with you ask them about it. I wouldn't risk it though, if you're really concerned space them out. But those aren't exactly like nursing your kid through a cold or something benign like that.
