Anyone Want to Give Name Advice? (Boy's Name)

We are expecting our 3rd son this year and are having difficulty thinking of a name. We are practicing Catholics and I have been making daily novenas to St. Jude - the patron saint of hopeless/difficult cases - for a healthy pregnancy and baby, as I am of "advanced maternal age" and have had a number of miscarriages. So far, everything looks fabulous! I have thought of naming the baby Jude in honor this saint but my husband isn't so sure. Do you like the name or do you think it would lead to teasing for a boy (ie. being called judy). Anyone have a son named Jude? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I love the name Jude! It's strong, classic, traditional and reminds me of England, probably because of the Beatles song :-) I'm a total anglophile so I say go for it, it's way better than a lot of weird trendy names happening now.

Let's see = Jude Law

John Lennon's song "Hey Jude"

We don't have a son named Jude. I like the idea behind it. My nephew and his wife named their daughter after a Saint as well.

I think it's a great name!

When I hear the name Jude I think of Jude Law, the actor.
That's a pretty good association for me.
I like it personally.

Jude is a fine name if both you and your husband like it. It is not common, yet not unheard of either. I happen to picture Jude Law (handsome actor).

If you are late, August is also a nice name (or middle name).

here are name that other who like Jude also like according to baby names.com:
People who like the name Jude also like:
Liam, Oliver, Noah, Asher, Owen, Gabriel, Henry
Charlotte, Violet, Lucy, Amelia, Olivia, Scarlett, Ava

I would read some of the baby name website opinions with a grain of salt. I did go on behindthename.com to look up names I wanted for my kids. They have 'mainstream' names, but still some nice and mean comments can be found with any name.

edit: I don't know any women named Judy under the age 60.

I don't know anyone under about 40 named Judy -- it's just not used much as a girl's name so I can't see him being teased by being called "Judy."

I think it is lovely to give your son the name of a saint whom you honor. Jude is a perfectly fine and traditional boy's name, quite nicely old-fashioned but still a bit unusual these days.

If you prefer, use Jude as a middle name and something else as his first name.

I like Jude, it reminds of the Beatles song (Hey Jude) or Jude Law.

Kids will find ways to mangle names if they want to...my oldest son (Christian) has been mocked with "Christina," my middle son has been called "Jacquelyn" (his name is Jacob) and his entire hockey teams calls him "Jake from State Farm" like it's his name. That one is actually pretty funny and he doesn't mind.

It's a beautiful name - makes me think of the Beatles. I don't think anyone would call him Judy because kids now don't actually know Judy is a name.

I'd not be naming any child after the patron saint of hopeless/difficult cases.
Your pregnancy is difficult - not your child.
Your pregnancy will end hopefully with a healthy child and he's going to carry that name with him his whole life.
How about Christian (Chris for short)?
What could be more hopeful than that?

Love the name Jude!!! Go for it!! Any name can be manipulated. I know someone who named her girl Bridget specifically looking for a name without mean nicknames. Day one of kinder she came home crying because someone called her Birdsh!t. So that plan can backfire!

I think the personal meaning behind it is beautiful, and I'm not even Catholic :)

now i have that song in my head. Hey Jude...... I think its a cute name. All names will get made fun of so there is no avoiding them. If its not the name they will find something else. Kids are mean. If you like it and can get the husband onboard then I say roll with it. If he isn't really big on it I would come up with something else. I personally don't know a Jude but thats not a bad thing.

Personally, it's a good name. Children can be cruel, once they have a target they will find something, anything to tease that person with. Choose a name you love, be aware of the strong and beloved people through out history that share that name. IF teasing comes up, just give those examples. Since you appear to be a strong Catholic, I would suggest another saint. Something hopeful and joyful. Maybe look for meanings of names first.

Congratulations and good luck!

I always believe a child helps name themselves, either due to circumstances, dreams, something that makes a prominent appearance in life during a pregnancy, something special to the parents.

In this case, I think you are carrying Jude.

As for the Judy worries, my kindergartener is Piper amd her friends call her Pipey. It's just something kids do. We started calling her Piper Doaper at birth, so she wouldn't care and shrug it off when the kids discover that rhyme.

I like the name Jude for a boy. I'd just be sure to give him a strong, clearly masculine, traditional middle name, like Michael or Samuel, not a name like Lee or Alex that could be either feminine or masculine.

I personally would never make the connection from Jude to Judy; I think Jude is a well-known male name. There are several famous Judes--the actor Jude Law, the song by the Beatles... I think you should call the child what you want to call him, in this case.

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy--if it's any reassurance, I had both my kids at 'advanced maternal age' without any developmental problems aside from the first one stopping growth in the last 3 weeks. He has been fine, however.

It looks like you have a lot of votes for Jude. I like it too.

My sister met a boy named Jude over the 6th grade summer. The only thing we ever teased her about was falling in love with a boy named Jude.

And yes, we sang it to her..."Hey Jude, don't bring me down...remember to let her into your heart...to make it better, better, better!"

Not a name that would have crossed my radar but I like it. Kids don't get teased as much about names and there is a lot more name diversity. Now when I look at my kids class roster there is 23 different names for 23 different kids.

Kids are "clever" when it comes to making fun of other kids and tease you over any name, so I wouldn't let that be the factor in choosing it or not. I personally like it, but if you want to compromise with your husband, you can use it as a middle name.

I like the name. If you are uncertain, you can select it as a middle name. Both of my boys have middle names which honored family but which we felt would provoke a mixed public reaction. Also one of my boys has a historically male name which has been hijacked as a girl name. You can't solve all the problems with a name. Do the best you can based on what you and your husband like not on what others will say or think. Good luck whatever you decide and congratulations.

The name Jude makes me think of the actor Jude Law. I'm personally not a big fan of the name Jude. I prefer names like Christopher, Michael, Matthew, Luke, Mark, Daniel, Joseph, Benjamin, or even Abe.

My sons' names are Dexter J. Arthur and Harry John. (The J stands for Justice)

Ultimately it shouldn't matter what we think but you and your husband should be in agreement about your new bundle of love's name.

Looks like your reason for liking it goes well with the meaning: the praised one or Hebrew meaning: Praise.
I wouldn't worry about kids calling him Judy-THAT is not a common name anymore. And Jace is pretty common and very close.
I didn't name my son Bryce because dad thought it was feminine (???). I named him Kaden and very occasionally he is called Katie. Doesn't bother him, though. And my brother named his son Bryce so it worked out!
