I was wondering if anyone out there has ever used the Amby Baby sleep system? It looks amazing but is pricey and just wanted to see if anyone had some thoughts on it. Thanks much!

We use the Arm's Reach Beautiful Dreamer Cocoon Sleeper and it's exactly like the Amby Sleep system only it costs between $135.00 - $150.00. We bought ours on the Babies "R" Us website, but you can go to the Arms Reach website and order it directly through them. Our daughter is almost 8 weeks old and has been sleeping through the night for weeks now. We love it and so does she and at that price, it's no more than most bassinets. I highly recommend it. I agree with Vicki. Why not teach your baby to sleep well independently, rather than providing a sleep crutch that will eventually have to be weaned away? And what happens if your baby has to sleep somewhere other than home? You'll be too dependent on the AMBY.

My recommendation--put $47 towards the Sleep Sense program (www.sleepsense.net). It is NOT a hoax, and the best $47 I ever spent. We are now using it with our second baby, and he is sleeping 11-12 hours through the night at 4 months old. Wonderful, sleep advice from an infant/child sleep specialist, Dana Obleman. I recommend this program to everyone! Simple, straightforward information about baby sleep! Educate yourself now, and you will go into parenthood feeling much more confident and RESTED! Cuz if your baby doesn't sleep, neither will you! I only wish I would have discovered this earlier with my first baby. I waited until I was so sleep deprived and desperate, I ordered the e-book immediately, devoured the information, and had my baby sleeping 11 hours the first night I tried it! We all got our lives (and sleep) back.

We got one before our first baby was born. It seemed so much cozier to me than a crib, and the motion seemed what a baby would like. As it turned out, I ended up co-sleeping with the baby in my bed for the first 3-4 months because he'd wake and cry as soon as he was put in the Amby and wouldn't fall asleep in it.

When we transitioned him to the Amby, we relied heavily on bouncing him to get him to sleep, which was another sleep crutch. We kept him in the Amby (and traveled with it) till 8 or 9 months but he never slept well in it. Eventually we moved him to a crib, and eventually he became a good sleeper (an age thing I think). So, in our case, the Amby was no cure for a poor sleeper.

I set up the Amby for our second baby, but put almost no effort into getting him to sleep in it. Instead, I co-slept again then moved him to a crib next to our bed. I still like the idea of the Amby, and if I was really against co-sleeping, ours might have gotten more use, but overall, it wasn't worth it for us.

Yes! When my daughter was a couple months old, she did not slip well in her cradle--she kept waking up. I actually purchased an Amby through Craig's list since they are so expensive, and I wasn't sure she would like it. It worked like a charm. During the night if I heard her starting to get restless, I just reached over and started to rock or bounce the bed and she would go right back to sleep. It worked really well for us.

I don't know anyone who has used it, but from one first-time mom to another, I would hold off until it appears your baby DOES have sleep issues. This system looks like it MIGHT aid a child who - after trying all the recommended efforts at soothing & training - still can not be pacified.

The biggest reason I would recommend to wait is that those first few months really do go by so fast. You don't know how big your child will be...we had borrowed a simple bassinet & my child was so long he grew out of it by 3 months. The weight limit on the Amby system says 25 pounds but the website also says that after 9 months there needs to be adult supervision. So, is $300 worth it if you only really use it for 6, 7 months?

I guess if you have the funds or someone wants to gift it to you & you have the room to store it when not using it, then it's "worth" getting but you don't know that your baby won't sleep just fine in a bassinet or crib or pack & play or whatever your initial choice would have been. I'm sure this is definitely a great beginning for any baby, but there will eventually be a weaning process for both YOU & the baby...& if the baby has never slept on a flat, motionless surface - hah! - there will DEFINITELY be sleepless nights ahead. It's just a part of parenthood for most everybody.

Just my thoughts - I'd be interested to know how the weaning process goes for mom's that have used it or how effective it is once the baby is more alert & active.

I don't have the Amby, but I did make a hammock in that style for my 2-month-old, and we love it! My 19-month old also sleeps in a hammock (basically a scaled-down adult-style hammock, and she loves it.

Wow,what an expensive cradle! There wasn't amby baby when my three kids were newborn and they slept great in an old fashioned cradle. I would think twice abou the expense and put it toward school or shoes later on...

I got a used Amby on ebay because I didn't want to spend the bucks, and loved it for all the reasons people have mentioned here, until my baby got too big for it, and then I sold it to another new family, so recovered some of the cost. We co-slept, but put baby to sleep in it for the first part of the night, and also for naps. It was really great to be able to easily bounce him back to sleep.

Love, love, love the Amby. It is a must. If you don't want to purchase an expensive new one, check Craigslist.com for a used one. I have seen them on Craigslist for $100 to $150. My child slept very well in the Amby and I never had to worry about a flat head! My second it due in March and I am excited use the Amby again.

I love my amby baby! I purchased mine when I had my second son...that was 6 years ago. I've since used it for my third son (now 4) and again loved it. It actually is the only piece of baby equipment we've held onto...just in case :-) I do admit, it's an investment and a personal decision. I probably used mine for the first 6 months of each child and when they were old enough to climb around much did my transition to cribs (we did some crib naps here and there just so they babies got used to sleeping in various situations). I decided to get my Amby Baby after having soooooooooo many issues with my first child - and my sanity. Yes you can purchase it after the baby is born if you learn there are sleep issues, colic, reflux etc. but by then in my mind it would almost be too late (personally that is) because by the time that happens most people try 20 other methods and just give up...or try other methods, get the amby baby, and by then you have to 'train' the baby all over again.
Shoot, I want to have another baby just so I can use my Amby Baby...that and a true swaddling blanket and a good swing were my "must haves".
Whatever path you choose...enjoy, relax and congratulations!
