Hi Lindsey,
I was on Mirena after I stopped breastfeeding with my daughter. My period completely disappeared after the first few months. At first I thought that was awesome, however into my second year I started to feel really strange. I had a lack of energy and could not do anything. I was very irritable and often felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. My husband was at his wits end. I went to the doctor who assurred me it was not Mirena and after a five minute conversation prescribed me an antideppressant. I started the pills and they intensified the way I was feeling so I immediately stopped taking them. My doctor prescribed a different pill but I did not take them. A week later I started my period and felt like my old self again.
Because my Wierd symptoms went away with my period I did not have Mirena removed. I figured since the doctor said it was not related it must have been a fluke. A few months later I started feeling "strange" again, so I immediately went in and had it taken out. I am on the pill again and although I hate taking it everyday. I am more than happy to be myself again.
I have talked to several other women who have had the exact same side effects of Mirena as I have - fatigue, lack of interest in everything, irritability and the crawling out of the skin feeling. I don't want to scare you, obviously Mirena is wonderful for lots of women. Just be aware of the potential side effects so that you can have it removed if the occur. It was too easy for my doctor to convince me it was my mind and not the Mirena product, when I KNEW better.
Good Luck to you.
C.
