Anyone Use a Moses Basket?

I'm currently pregnant and am thinking of purchasing a moses basket. Has anyone ever used one and if so, was it worth it? I know it would only be used for a a few months and plan to spend max $50 on one.

What can I do next?

YES!
I used one with my Son.
LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!
HE loved it too!

It is portable, and you can place it anywhere in the house, by you and by the bed when you sleep.

My friend used one too. Loved hers!

My son was able to use it for about 3 months. Then outgrew it, then he went in the crib.

He slept SO well in his basket! And did so in his crib after that.

It IS worth it.
I got mine online, for about $40.
From Amazon.

Yep, and I still have it. I use it as a basket, to put toys in now.

My BIL carried their first child home from the car to the house in one. The handle broke, the baby fell on her face on the cement. Baby was fine, BIL permanently scared.

We got ours as a hand me down and LOVED IT! My daughter slept in it in our room for the first few days, then I put it inside her crib for a little while because she was so tiny. THat was where I'd put her to nap and bring it in the kitchen or LR or wherever I was. I'd never carry it by the handles of course, but it was awesome. I agree it seems pricy and it's hardly a necessity but we really liked it. On the other hand, I had a pack n play with bassinet feature that I NEVER used except for traveling. Too bulky.

I told my friend to get one for her first. She resisted because she had a bassinet etc. Another friend w/ 4 kids also told her to get one so then she did. After a month, mentioned that it's indispensible. We used ours ALL THE TIME.

I love, love, loved my moses basket! It was used by my sister's 2 kids, for my DD, and then passed on to my nephew before it gave out. We used ours for 4 months. My sister used hers for 8 months with her middle child to help them co-sleep since her hubby was so big and she was worried that he would roll onto her, lol. I loved the portability. If she was asleep in it in the living room, and i wanted to go to bed, I'd just carry her little sleeping body in there without disrupting her too much.

I have never known anyone that used one of these, I looked them up online to get a better idea of exactly it entailed. It looks to me like, as you said, it is only going to be used a very few months...so why not make it yourself? Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels...they ALWAYS seem to have those really nice woven baskets on half price sale. Then just make your own pad and such....then when your baby outgrows it...take the padding out and voila...you have a great storage basket for the nursery or toy room!!!

I would invest in a good pack n play that has a bassinet attachement personally.

I loved ours. This was where my son played when I took my showers, I could take it anywhere in the house. I'm having a hard time parting with ours, and my son is four. Good times...

Make sure it has a pad, and if you are crafty, it's easy to sew up a couple of covers. I used an old sheet for that project. Or use safety pins to secure a baby blanket around it, and pin it secure in back.

My MIL got us one for our second baby and we absolutely loved it. Be aware, though, that you'll only really use it for 3 months if that. If someone is going to get you one as a gift then sure, go for it. If you're going to buy one, check out eBay or craigslist. If you were closer, I'll sell you mine - it's in mint condition!

i had the pack and play with the bassinet attachment. It was great because you dont have to bend down to the floor to get it and if you have pets you dont have to worry about them sniffing around the baby or putting the basket up on a counter. I had a little wooden cradle by the bed and that was great at night and nap time. rock a bye baby.

Hi, I am not sure what to use a Moses Basket for. If you are thinking about using it to have the baby sleep in the same room I would highly recommend a bassinet like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Kolcraft-Cuddle-Care-Rocking-Bassin...
I had one for my daughter for the first 4 month. It came with a night light that worked great for the nightly nursing and the vibration feature on it helped putting her to sleep. I got mine used from Craigslist for $30.
Good luck!

My mom was determined to get me a moses basket and bassinet. She did and I never used either. I'm not ungrateful, I just didn't need them. Our son slept in a pack-n-play until I moved him to a crib. His room is right across the hall. If you end up with a bigger baby, you won't use it for even a few months.

I think it's kind of a waste of money. The baby will only fit in it for a short time.

I'm going to chime in also on the side of "loved mine!" My brother and SIL gave it to me for my first, and I made good use of it for all 3 of my babies. It was particularly useful for the 2nd and 3rd, because they napped so much better in the middle of everything. My 2nd child would fall asleep, I'd put her in her crib, play with her sister in the other room, and she'd wake up. When I moved her Moses basket to the living room, she'd sleep for much longer while sister and I played. (BTW, the directions tell you that you should never carry it by the handles with the baby in it! Always move the basket with the baby out of it.)

Loved using one with our son but I never carried him around in it. I was too afraid it would tip or the handle would break. It was a gift. I don't think I would have bought one since they are so expensive and are outgrown pretty fast. We used a borrowed cradle and bassinet with our twins.

Used it for a month with first daughter, 2 or 3 months with second daughter and now hangs on the wall and has stuffed animals in it. Was a gift, didn't know what it was and probably wouldn't have purchased one. Guess it will be something nice to pass on down in the future.

We had one only b/c it was given to us. I liked but i did not use it for very long. i would not spend too much on it just in case you don't use it as much as planned. will you have more kids?
