I have taken prometrium and progestine to bring on my
period. I have also done one round of clomid which did not work. My
doctor then suggested I have an HSG(hysterosalpingogram) test and
before I talk to my doctor about those results she wants me to have a
pelvic ultrasound. Im kinda nervous about the results. I am also
taking 1400mg of metformin daily. This site/group was recommended by a
friend, it is nice to know I am not the only one out there having a
hard time getting prego.. If anyone has had any of these test I would
love to hear how they went. This whole processing I am finding to be a
bite more stressful then I could have imagined.... I did not ever think it would be this
difficult to get pregnant. I am now about 5 days late, but its frustrating when I don't start... of course the first thought is maybe I'm prego. But I am scared to test, because I don't want to see the negative sign. If any is taking Metformin and/or clomid... is it or has it worked for you. Im really scared to hear my results of the HSG test and am kinda nervous about the pelvic u/s. I do wish the best for everyone.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi everyone... thank you for you responses. Well I went to the doctor and I am not prego. I was nervous all weekend, expecting to get really bad news, but she said everything look good my problem is..I have an irregular cycle, which I am trying to get a little more regular with the metformin. The doctor said it is possible for me to get pregnant on own... just taking the meformin, but there is no way to know how long it may take. She wanted to increase, but since is just starting taking the 1400mg dosage, I decided to wait. She did recommend my husband get check to rule the male factor out. I may start clomid again, my doctor recommended we wait until after the results of my husbands analysis.

I've done the met/clomid combo and at 1000mg Met, 200mg Clomid (daily- clomid CDs 2-6) I got pg. I am now due with #2 in November. I have also done a pelvic u/s, but not the HSG.

As much as I do like MamaSource, I am not sure it is the best fit for someone who is PI (Primary Infertility) without kids. If you are Christian, the is another site for Christian Women in any stage of Infertility. It is called Hannah's Prayer. http://www.hannahsprayer.org/board/ has special forums for PCOS (the most comon reason they Rx Met), Anovulation (sp? but non-ovulating cycles), PI, SI (Secordary Infertility, like me), Prayer Requests, and many MANY others.

At my worst point of suffering Infertiliy, I couldn't stand to read the questions here about new-born babies. I couldn't take the "am I pg AGAIN?" questions. It just hurt too much! It is a painful situation to live through. And at HP (Hannah's Prayer) I learnt that it is natural to feel that way.

Research has shown that a woman's grief and stress as she deals with infertility is equal to a person suffering a life threatening disease such as Cancer. In fact, there was an article of a women that had been through IF, and years later had Breast Cancer. She stated that she would rather suffer Breast Cancer again over IF. "With cancer, you have an answer and a prognoisis to prepare your hopes around. With IF, either you have hope, or you've given it up." In another article I read (somewhere) they were explaining that often, the reason that husbands can't be more sympathetic to a wife with IF is because men can seperate their identity from IF. Women on the other hand start to define their identity AS IF. I think that bit helped me to feel less like my hubby and I were from 2 differnt planets.

Anyway, I hope some of this has been of help, and some has been of comfort. Good luck on your TTCing!

Hi L.
First of all, buckle up for a wild ride! Infertility is a roller coaster. We rode it back in 2001 and were finally blessed with a puppy (my 1st born when the IVF failed) and then two gorgeous girls came along after the 2nd round of IVF. I went to a "fertility doctor", for lack of a better term. He SUCKED. He put me on the pill, premarin, then Clomid. Zilch. He would have me come in and do an ultrasound every couple of days and then the next cycle he just doubled the dose. He did this 3X until I was hallucinating (really)from the overdose of Clomid. I am a nurse so I don't get hysterical when it comes to medical things, but I was freaking out b/c I thought that must be what it's like to be on acid! Anyway, he never checked my tubes nor my hubbie's swimmers. When I finally went to a reproductive endocronologist (the other guy had just taken a few classes), she did an HSG, pelvic ultasound, AND checked my hubby. I had been doing my research and knew by this time that I had Polysystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and was on Metformin for the insulin resistance, as well as Synthroid as it was determined my thyroid wasn't working at all. Basically I wasn't ovulating and probably hadn't been ever since my periods disappeared altogether a few years prior. The HSG is nothing. You go to sleep, then you wake up. I was home afterwards with no ill effects. No pain. No bleeding. The pelvic ultrasounds will be done A LOT in the process, so don't worry. They lube it up and put a condom on it before and it's not very big. (I can't believe I am writing this!) If possible, have your husband/partner go with you to the visits. It makes it SOO much easier when you have that 2nd set of eyes and ears.

I sounds like a pain, but in the end, when you get that call that you are pregnant, it will all fade into the background! Just wait until you hold your baby for the 1st time. Oh and by the way...Clomid and IVF will more often than not result in multiples! My twins were born 11/2/02 at 11:02 and 11:03 pm. They are the lights of my and my husband's lives!

First thing First...take a pregnancy test. I understand you are reluctant due to the possibledissappointment of "a negative sign" but you must rule pregnancy out before anything else. Best of Luck!

Hi L.. I took Metformin for about a year, a couple of years ago. Mine was prescribed to me by my doctor for Metabolic Syndrome (pre diabetes). I'm not sure if the two correlate or not. I've never heard of it used for the purpose of getting pregnant, which is what I believe you are trying to do based on the information you gave in your post. I would get a second opinion on that med for that purpose. Just my opinion! Good luck!!
