Anyone Take a 2-Yr Old Skiing at Mary Jane - Galloping Goose Lift?

We're considering taking our 2 year old up to Mary Jane with us next weekend, and were thinking of trying out the Galloping Goose lift with him. I've looked into gear, and found that at this age, plastic skiis that clip onto their own boots may be the answer. Has anyone done this? Any gear tips? (where to buy, etc). Any words of wisdom? We're just looking to hold onto him and simply slide down the hill with him, while the others are skiing up on Mary Jane.

What can I do next?

It's me again (Sharon) - Check out the second hand stores for gear - they outgrow them so fast. One I can think of is on Gaylord and 10th but don't know if they ares still there and can't remember the name of the store. I will have to drive in there and see if it is still there - their is a Mexican Restaurant on the corner and it is North and on the other side of the street from there and it is about three businesses north from tenth.
You can also check this time of year at DAV etc. The boots are the most important that they fit well. You can practice in the park with him. You don't need that much slope - just a little.
We had all that stuff till we got rid of our storage unit last April. They went to Salvation Army.
I have got to tell you that I was building ski legs from the time he could walk so we did a lot of walking and park time - climbing climbing and more climbing. I have to say we spent more time there than reading or in front of the tv.

don't know if you know about craigs list - but this is an awesome site to get some stuff.
If all else fails you can rent at Christy SPorts or at the ski area. They are real good with kids.
Give me a call ###-###-#### - if you want some assistance.
I am a stay at home mom with only one and he's in college and i don't mind.
Cheers!

We did that exact thing with our new two year old on plastic clip ons. You can hold on but don't expect him to ski. Those skis have no edges. I would actually get a super tiny pair, boots a size too big (fit next year) and a pair of edgy wedgies (toe clips) and maybe a harness. Then you can use it all next year. good luck

We did this a Copper Mountain with our 2 year old. There
is a magic carpet right under another blue lift so my husband
and I took turns. I was an elementary school teacher for
12 years prior to having kids and a very patient person. It
was an okay experience. My daughter enjoyed it but she really
didn't get a whole lot out of it except the feeling of skiing.
We used Lucky Bums (which was the most helpful for lifts) and
a hoola hoop to help guide them down the hills. All I really
have to say is DEFINITELY enroll him into ski school when he
is 3 yrs old. It was like night and day. It is kinda of expensive but TOTALLY worth the money! They really know
what they are doing and they pace it so the kids don't get
too tired, hungry, or frustrated. They work at the kids
stage of skiing and move them accordingly. Both my kids are
skiing now after 2 or 3 lessons and have great control and
speed. I have a 4 and 6 year old. So now we all ski down the
mountain together and have a ball. Remember you kids ski
free until they turn 6- just go to the ticket window and ask
for an under five ski pass. Also, we do seasonal rentals
it really is a great value and sometimes it is hard to find
boots for the little ones is you don't have them seasonally.
Good Luck and have a great time!

My mom works for Vail Resorts and I know all the people there take their kids skiing. Two is about when they start. As far as where to get stuff or how to go about it, I'm not sure. It should be fun. We were planning it for a family vacation this next week, but since I'm pregnant, we're going to have to do it another year. I'd love to hear how your trip goes.

We have a 2 1/2 year old, and my parents bought him those clip on skis (from REI outlet online). We were thinking of doing that exact thing. My father, who is an instructor at WP, suggested doing the magic carpet at WP first. Then, next year we'll get regular skis and boots for him.
I know at Mary Jane there are some parents groups that share time watching the kids and alternating skiing. I used to be an avid skiier at MJ, but since I've had kids (2 1/2 and 10 months) I've been about two times. If you're interested in that - or getting the kids out there skiing together, please email me.
