Anyone Out There Do Something Really Stupid?

Today I apparently left water running into my kitchen sink for hours when I was not there! I remember running the hot (yes, it was hot water!) to start the dishwasher before I left the house, but I can't imagine for the life of me why I would leave it running!!! The sink was full (a pan was in it that blocked the drain) and there was water underneath the sink and some (not a lot) on the floor. I'm drying it out now!

This is awful, but I'm hoping to have all the evidence hidden when my husband gets home (awful, I know). He may wonder why our water bill is so high :), but I'm hoping to hid this one from him!

Anyone else do something out there that is just so stupid you can't believe you did it?

Thanks for letting me "fess up"!

What can I do next?

Aww.
I think if memory serves me correctly, I may have driven away from the gas station w/the gas pump still attached.
Maybe! ;) Argh. I stopped in time w/o any damage.

Once I put my keys in the freezer and couldn't find them for awile. Ugh.

Last week, I took two back to back receipts out of my wallet and tore them into a zillion peices. When I went to put the zillion peices in the garbage, I realized there was a $20 bill BETWEEN the receipts.

GRRRRRR!

I was behind this old geezer, who was driving like a complete asswipe, weaving all over the road, going about 20 mph. I started flashing my lights at him, then roared past him and gave him the finger. Then I realized it was my grandfather...
This is just one of sooooo many stupid things I have done.

Yes last week. Left a voice message and thought I hung up and ranted about the person. Then I realized the whole thing was on the message! Thank God I was able to delete the message. So not like me to do that but I was really frustrated with this person! Oh well!

Oh, yes. LOL I flooded my bathroom. I turned the sink on high to soak some soiled clothes from my baby after changing a diaper. I also stopped up the drain, and we have no overflow drain. The timer was beeping in the kitchen, so I ran out of the room and locked the door behind me to keep the children out, as a matter of habit. Totally forgot the sink was running for about 2 hours. It was as I was running out the door to take my son to piano lessons that I went back into the room to grab my purse and shoes that I realized my huge mistake. The water was pouring out of the sink onto the floor. The realization of what had happened dawned on me gradually. Oh...OH...OHHHH!!!! It was over $35,000 in damages. I flooded my bathroom, soaked the carpets in my bedroom and closet (had to get new pads). When I ran downstairs to get more towels to sop up the mess (still in denial, thought I could have it cleaned up before my husband got home), I discovered a flooded basement, which we had just finished. I had about 2 inches of water in my laundry room (which is about 20' x 20'--huge). We had to get new flooring, they had to take down some of the drywall to dry out the area between the floors, needed a new top for my island, the entire room had to be repainted when they fixed the drywall... I got new cabinets in my bathroom because the others were ruined. We had to get new tile, etc. Oh, yes, I've made stupid mistakes. I joked that I needed to flood the kitchen next... My husband didn't think that was very funny. And we were so thankful for our awesome insurance!!

I left my dayplanner on the roof of the car while gassing up. This was before the age of debit cards and I had just cashed a tax refund check. I was on vacation and had $1000 cash in the damn thing. Now THAT was stupid.

HA! My mom did something similar to that a few years ago, but what made it worse, it was Christmas and we were all sitting right there and no one questioned WHY the water was running! LOL!

BTW...just because I have had lots of issues w/ water damage this year, I want to tell you to be VERY careful that everything dries out 100%...it only takes mold a matter of hours to start to grow. I'm talking about under your sink and make sure it didn't get under your cabinets.

I had a large box of medication to send to my FIL. They were for his COPD and asthma. I set the box on top of my car while I loaded the kids into the car. About a mile from home I saw something fly across the back window...yep, hundreds of dollars of prescription meds, in the middle of the road....right in the path of a UPS truck that ran over it, and the box kinda exploded--debris everywhere. Luckily they were samples, or I'd be in BIG trouble!

I do things like that daily. Today alone I've managed to leave my tv remote in the fridge, found it after searching for 2 hours; leave my cell phone under the bathroom sink, run the dishwasher twice, and I forgot to close the lid to the washing machine.

We were all at a family outing with friends to watch an air show. Gets to be time to leave and where are the car keys?? I run back to the car - which fortunately is unlocked, windows down for some reason - and hunt everywhere for them. Through the trunk, under the car etc. I call my husband to tell him no sign of the keys. As I'm saying that, the angle I'm standing it shows me they were in the ignition the whole time. How lucky were we that no one stole the car!! Our friend is rather uptight and very smart and I swear he'll never look at me the same after that stupid move.

I had advertised toddler clothes for sale and this one mom contacted me that lived in another state and wanted them. I told her how much they were and we got to chatting back and forth online and with her stating she was Christian, I stupidly trusted her and sent a whole box full of toddler clothes, paid for the shipping, and only asked for 11 dollars. She said she received the clothes, but couldn't pay at that time because of some sob story she gave. Three months pass and I kept getting the run around. I couldn't believe I allowed myself to trust someone like that. That was real stupid on my part to send the clothes without receiving payment first. She never paid either. I hope Karma kicks her in a special place for that. :-D I had realized this before, but it really slapped me in the face at that time, that just because someone says they are Christian, or whatever religion, doesn't make them trustworthy. I sure fell for that one.

I married my 1st husband..... does that count?

I also married the 2nd one.... counts also.

But the biggie was when I was pregnant with "baby brain". I wrote a check for the 'balance' line of the checking account register instead of the "now due" line of the gas bill.

We were saving up for the baby and hadn't bought anything yet, so we had like $6,000 in our checking account. The gas bill (in Houston in the summer) was like $13.00. Thank GOD the accounts payable lady at the gas company had a sense of humor!!!!!!

Which story to share? Hmmm . . .

How about the time my husband and I bought a moped for him to ride to work to save on gas? About an hour after he got home with it, I decided I wanted to ride it over to his mom's house three miles away to show it to her. As I approached the stoplight at the corner where I needed to make a right turn, I prayed it would turn red so I could stop and make the right turn slowly. It stayed green and there was a line of cars behind me, so I had to make the turn without stopping. I didn't turn sharp enough. I took out the side of this tank of a suburban with the left side of my body. Damage to the suburban: $2000. $2000 moped: totaled. Time it took for me to flush $4000 down the toilet: about 5 seconds.

No, I will NEVER live that one down!

I accidentally erased my itinerary for my flights! I'm leaving in 6 days and tried to retrieve it from the trash on my email but of course the trash is emptied every few days. Then I went to the website but they need a confirmation #-that was in the email. They said they can get it with the credit card # but my husband has the credit card and will be out of town for a few days!

We have to do a back wash on our pool every once in awhile and this summer I was *trying* to do this all alone and I set the pool pump to back wash and messed around in the back yard for a good 10 minutes before going out front to check the water flow....

Our pool pump is piped out to the front of our house along the garage and goes down the driveway and into the street...anyway, the garage door was open and I had failed to move the garbage cans away from the water return and I had about 3 inches of pool water in my garage and some even soaked the carpet in the house from the garage door into the house?!

Oh My! What a MESS! I was LIVID!!!!
