Anyone Nurse Twins?

I found out 3 weeks ago we are expecting twins. A boy and girl! I'm 17 weeks and have 1 huge concern! Breastfeeding! I breastfed my first 2, but that was 1 at a time! I plan to feed until after the first birthday. I just need to know how to do it with 2, positioning, and any other helpful info! I'm probably worried for no reason and it will likely all come naturally, but advice surely is appreciated right now!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

I have only nursed a single (no twins), but there are several moms on mothering.com who are nursing twins, and they are finding ways to do it well. There are discussions about nursing tandem, positioning, nursing while sleeping w/ twins, etc. Go to that website and then click Discussions in the top navigation bar. There are thousands of nursing moms on that site (including me!).

Best of luck!

I have twins and I tried nursing them... it was WAY too hard for me but I don't think my milk came in the way it should have. I tried for 2 weeks and I had to suppliment anyway so that was easier for me. I am involved in SPOM (Sarsota Parents of Muliples)... and I know a lot of the women have breastfed and it might benefit you to ask them some questions they have a website... so check it out. I hope this helped!!!
The website is: sarasotamultiples.com! Congratulations on the twins... it is twice the blessing! =)

Hi J.. I'm M., I have 2 boys, 4 years and 20 mths, and one on the way. I'm also 25 and plan to HS (and new in town! we should have a playdate!)
I don't have any personal advice, but my children's godmother nursed her now 2 year old twins exclusively from birth, they are her 5th and 6th children. She is full of advice and an awesome lady. I'd thought I'd pass along her email- ____@____.com -her name is Micki. She'd love to pass along her wisdom ; )

Good luck!

M.

I have twin boys they are now 15months and I breastfeed them it really isn't that hard I found sitting in a recliner not a glider chair with a boppy pillow was the easier I also pumped as well so when their father was home he would bottle feed the breast milk while I breastfeed the other and we just switched out whos turn to breastfeed which was great b/c it will get them use to using a bottle as well but I do suggest like wide nipples for bottlefeeding.......Goodluck on the twins it isn't as hard as people make it seem you just have to find what works I can give you lots of tips that worked for me.....One last thing my twins were 6 week premies which is normal and weighted 4 6 and 4 11 and when they were first born I had to bottlefeed them breastmilk b/c their suckling wasn't strong enough but after a month they were on the boobie and if they are premies they need that breastmilk more than others so just try it out it's not that hard

Sorry I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to say CONGRATS to you. It is so special to have twins. Good luck. I am sure it will come to you naturally like everything as mothers does.

A friend of mine has twins. She really couldn't get the hang of feeding both of them at once while nursing. I'm sure since you have a lot of experience, it will work for you. I would think having the boppy pillow and using the "football" hold for both of them would work best. My friend pumped a lot and she would nurse one and have the other in the boppy pillow feeding her a bottle. Every feeding she would switch the twins out so the each had equal time with nursing and a bottle. congratulations and good luck!
