Hello, my name is L.. You and I are in the same boat as far as expecting our new little one. I have a 23 month old and we are expecting a little girl in June. We are very excited. I would recommend you try Double-Take or Craigslist for a carseat. Are you in the Santa Fe area?

I hear Britax is the best out there. We got one w/ our first child.... a little pricey, but supposed to be the best. We like ours. It's lastest through 3 kids. They have all sizes too.

Depending on the area where you reside, there are actually free car seat clinics all over out there. It will cost you about 1/2 hour of your time to watch and short video and listen to a presentation by the sponsor. It doesn't take long and it's worth it to know that your child will be safe.

My husband is a Safety Specialist for General Motors. He has taught driver training to secret service and police academy instructors for 14 years. His advice to me has always been simple with carseats... It can be the safest carseat in the world, but if it is installed incorrectly, you are never going to be safe. If there are car seat seminars/programs offered by your local fire department, take them!! Three point harnesses give the best support. Rear faceing for the first year--neck stregnth isn't great until then. My biggest advice is to never leave your carseat unbuckled and just sitting in the car (like when you take it from one car to another and just place it in the new car without buckling it) Lay the carseat on its side so you remember to buckle it correctly when you do load the baby! There are consumer reports and information all over about safe carseats-- just learn how to put them in your car and stay safe! Best of luck with the new baby! It is amazing to put them in the car and bring them home!!! carseatdata.org is a good source. My husband also says it is never a good idea to purchase used carseats. Hope that helps.

We would have a graco infant seat for you by then. My baby boy is 10 months, and we will get him a new one after he turns 1 in April. We aren't having any more, so you'd be welcome to it. It is in very good condition, hasn't bee recalled or in an accident. It is 2years old and the kind that clicks into the stoller, which we still use. Let me know.

I believe the City of Glendale offers free car seats to the public who cannot afford them.
