Anyone Have Luck with Sensitive or AR Formulas??

I have a 4 month old son that is a very spitty baby. He also has been diagnosed with Larygomalacia - which is a soft and floppy flap in the throat. My son also has Acid Reflux and is on Prevacid. Doctor told us to put a scoop of rice cereal in his bottles to thicken the milk to help it stay in his stomach better. he also told us we can start him on 1st foods and cereal. Wondering if anyone has had luck with AR formulas that have rice starch already added to them. My son has been eating 6oz every 3 hrs and the doctor said to cut back to 3oz every 2 hrs. Well I find it hard to keep him satisfied when you cut his feeding in half. Any suggestions?? I am also trying to decide between a spitty but happy baby or a clean baby but slightly fussy baby?? Anybody else been in this situation?

What can I do next?

My son has/had GERD(gastroentestinal reflux disease), basically a fancy word for reflux. LOL anyways I had to put him on Similac Sensitive(the orange can) and eventually added 2 formula scoops of rice cereal to his 6oz bottle of formula. It helped keep his formula down.

I hope this helps and good luck finding something that helps.

the AR formulas were okay...my son was on them for a few months because he had pretty bad AR... he was on zantac (his dr wouldn't give us anything else) when he went on nutramigen with rice cereal mixed in, it became almost non-existent (spit up) i was quite surprised. (he went on it for milk allergies, but i'm glad it helped his AR). my son always drank 2-3oz every 2 or so hours...he was always hungry, but he regulated it like that because it hurt him to drink & spit up. he didn't start drinking 7-8oz at a time until he was 12 months..

I had great success with the AR formula with my twin girls. Even after they started sitting up and crawling I tried going to regular formula and they were spitting up after every bottle so I went back to AR til they started milk. They didn't have any reflux they were just very premature.

I haven't tried the AR formulas, but both of my kids had the same thing and we used the Simlac Alimentum because it doesn't have the milk problems in it. My daughter could use some soy, I think we did about half and half, but my son can't tolerate the soy either, so its pure alimentum for him. He is 5.5 months old and he is throwing up rice when I feed him, so we are taking a break back from foods for now. Spit up happens, its the nature of the GERD, but I would not recommend a fussy baby because they are crying because it HURTS and I wouldn't want feel that if I didn't have to. When we put the rice in his bottle he wouldn't drink as much so he woke up hungry at night. When my little guy was that age I would feed him 4 oz every hour and a half. This meant we fed a lot, but he didn't spit up as much and his tummy didn't get overwhelmed with too much food. Also, have you tried the playtex dropins? They help keep the air out, and the latex nipples are much better than the silicone ones if he has problems latching. I hope this helps, but if you need more help pm me and I will see if I can help. Good luck!!!
