Anyone Have Info on Hiring a Night Nurse?

I'm thinking about hiring a night nanny. I'd love to hear from others who have done so.
- Was it worthwhile?
- How much does it cost?
- How long (and from when) did you use the night nanny?

Any suggestions on how to find one would be appreciated, as well. Thanks!

Hi, I have a now 10 month old son and at first thought the idea of a night nurse was an awesome idea. But I found that if you are going to nurse, which I did, you are up anyway. The night nurse will try to convince you to pump or give formula at night, which in the beginning is not good for your milk supply. You still need to nurse or pump every few hours anyway. I think it is a waste of money and very expensive ( I think it was around $120 a night) If you are using formula, it might be nice to get some much needed rest, but again it is very expensive. As a new mom, you will hear every cry anyway, even if you are trying to sleep. So, overall I think it is a waste of money. Good luck. Thanks.

I used a doula for the daytime but they also had nightime doulas. The service I used was called Birthways. They have a set hourly fee and it is typical of the going rate for doulas.

Hi;

I'm the mother of a two year old and work as a pre&perinatal massage therapist as well as a labor & delivery doula and postpartum doula. I have been working as a postpartum doula for about a year and a half now. I primarily work overnight and have done so since my own son slept through the night. I am professionally trained and also certified in infant cpr. I have enjoyed helping many moms with their newborns. I can provide many references who will speak very highly of my services. I provide a variety of services based on the families needs. Overnight help can be invaluable for moms to get sleep through the night while having some household chores done for them. Laundry, cooking, light cleaning and miscellaneous projects as well as massage can be included in the service with the primary focus on baby. I have worked for moms who are struggling with postpartum depression, twins, sleep deprivation. Overnight help can make all the difference in the world. I work with a network of doulas. Rates vary from $15-$27 per hour. There was an excellent article about doulas in the February Chicago Parent Magazine. If you are interested in talking to me we can determine a rate that fits your situation. Please contact me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-#### or by email ____@____.com if I can provide further assistance.
