So through the courtesy of some sort of bug bite/sting I have cellulitus in my arm. I'm trying to find out if there's anything I can take or apply topically to help relieve the burning and itching. I might add that I'm also 38 weeks pregnant. So this is becoming very trying on my patience. The only thing that seems to work are ice packs but I can't wear them all day and I need to be able to move around and get things done around the house. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sorry I didn't clarify - I've been to the doctor and am on antibiotics.

Call your regular doctor right away and have it examined. Cellulitis, if that is what it is, can cause bacteria to get in your bloodstream and cause a serious infection in you and possibly your baby. This can occur very quickly and get very serious. Request to be seen ASAP and in the meantime apply a topical OTC antibiotic ointment to your wound. My daughter had tiny bug bites that over the course of 2 days rapidly progressed to a serious leg infection requiring hospitalization. God bless you!

My aunt just had to deal with this but as soon as she was bit and the site flared up she went to the emergency room and they gave her an antibiotic.

Good luck!

You need to see your doctor ASAP. He should prescribe an antibiotic ointment and should do a swab for MRSA. My pediatrician told me, that these days they want to see anybody with a wound or bug bite that doesn't show signs of healing or at least impovement within three days. They ALWAYS swab, since MRSA is so widespread. If you catch it early, it's relatively easy to treat.
Good luck!

I got cellulitus from a bug bite, also. The bite was right around my bra, so it spread to my breast. Did your Dr. give you any instruction, on how to treat it? Have you received any medication? If you haven't seen your Dr. about it, you should contact them asap. The location of my infection, probably made my situation different then yours...but I ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks, when it got to my breast. It became serious REALLY quickly.

If you're on the correct antibiotic the swelling should have reduced to the point of no longer burning or itching within 48 hrs.. If not, I would be high-tailing it back to the dr.to find out why.

How long have you been on antibiotics? My son's fever, pain, and redness started to go away within a few days. I will also add that after his cellulitis cleared it left behind a bullseye and he was then diagnosed w/ lyme disease so please keep an eye on how it clears. It should clear from the outside to the inside if the redness starts clearing from the inside go back to the doctor to be tested. Tylenol was all he took for it besides antibiotics of course. I would call and ask your doctor if there is anything you can take to help with the discomfort.

Cellulitis is nothing to mess with, even if you weren't 38 weeks along. Please go see your regular md before this complicates your pregnancy further.
