Anyone Have Experience Using the Nuva Ring?

I have been using the Nuva Ring since my son was about two months old. He is now 13 months old and I am still breastfeeding, although he is also on solids. The past three months I have not had a period when I remove the ring. Before that I was regular and had quite heavy periods compared to before I was pregnant. I noticed that the day after I remove the ring I get an incredible headache, sometimes so bad that I can't sleep and am incredibly uncomfortable. Once I even vomited. The summer was pretty stressful since we were going back and forth every month between the states and the Dominican Republic. I have been going through some major adjustments living in a foreign country and getting used to living with my son's father, etc. I thought maybe the irregularity was due to stress but things have since calmed down considerably. I thought for sure this month I would have a period, but last night I got the headache again. I took a pregnancy test last month after missing the second period and it came up negative. I would greatly appreciate any insight people may have.

What can I do next?

i would see a doctor right away. i'm sure its a side effect. look up nuva ring side effects online. it's amazing what you can find online. any search engine. i've looked up so many meds myself online. i have the merina IUD and have not had a period in 3 years. so i understand that worry every month. i'm wondering if it works in a similar manner.. did they say you could possibly stop periods? i'd worry about the head aches but that also can show that the hormone levels are high enough to stop your periods and then once removed... your going threw withdrawals.

Hi, I've never used the Nuva Ring but I did recently read an article on it talking about how they are starting to do more research on the ring relating to the fact that more women are getting undetected blood clots and some have died from them. You may want to do some research yourself and see if this is really the best BC for you to use. It made me nervous enough that it's not something I will ever use. Maybe the headaches are another side effect of the hormones in the ring. You should also consult your dr. to make sure that you are ok if this just happening after having no headaches to start with. Good luck to you!

I used the Nuva Ring for two years and didn't have any problems, as a matter of fact I had regular periods for the first time. I haven't been able to go back on it since I had my son because we don't have insurance and can't afford it, so I don't know how my body would react now. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I have to agree with the other woman, go see a doctor.

Talk to your doctor. I have been on the NuvaRing for about 3 years now. I've never had a problem with headaches from it, however headaches are always a possible side effect of birth control. I do know that though I've never stopped having periods my period has continually gone down in how long it is. I talked to my doctor about it and she seemed to not be surprised that my period was shorter. See the doctor about the headaches and such, it may be that the headaches and vomitting are caused by having whacked your body out with stress but you should get checked out.
