I used Evening Primrose oil in concert with intense daily imaging and went from 0-75% effaced in a week.
Good luck!

Hello Ladies,
I am pregnant with number 3. I wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with Evening Primrose Oil to help move dilation along? Any advice would be appreciated. Although, I know about most of the "labour inducers" I really am happy to wait for the most part. Just hoping to allow my body to dilate/efface so I don't have to have another C-section. Thank ahead of time!

I think I had great luck with evening primrose. I started taking it at 32 weeks and was dialated to 4 by 38 weeks. I took 2 or 3 pills a day! Hope that helps!
My best friend used EPO to induce labor w/her #3 & she went into labot pretty quickly. She popped it w/a clean pin then I can't remember if she just inserted it or squeezed the oil out down there. I can't remember if I tried it w/my #3. If I did, it didn't work. Part of the reason was b/c I was undiagnosed hypothyroid & if you're not on medication your body has a hard time producing the hormones it takes to to into labor. My last 2 were overdue as a result but eventually went into labor naturally. Good luck!

Hi K.! Have your hubby give you a massage and have him massage on the taboo pressure points....(the pinch right behind your ankle bones, webs of your fingers, and the tops of your shoulders that you can pinch?) I found that this can put you into early labor if you have somebody massage them when I got a pregnancy massage. :)
I just gave birth to baby number 3. I took evening primrose capsules (3x's daily) for the last month of pregnancy for babie's #1 and 2. I can't say that it brought labor on or that it made labor easier. Although the last two L&D's were much faster and easier than the first. But I just attribute that to the fact that they are #1 and 2. My labors with these last two were extremely easy. One lasting 8 hours and the next about 6. I pushed for less than 5 minutes w/ both! Don't know if evening primrose had anything to do with it. Good luck!
Hi, K..
I took Arnica homeopathic remedy about two weeks before my due date. When I was getting impatient for baby to be born, I rubbed castor oil on my belly (DO NOT drink it! unless you want to be pooping through your whole l&d.) and ate curry. (I don't know what Middle Easterners who eat curry all the time do; maybe they have a burger and fries to kick-start labor? ;-)
These suggestions are not dilation-specific, but can help move labor along. I'm sure you could find a homeopathic remedy that's dilation-specific on ABCHomeopathy.com or in one of the homeopathy/birth books.
Good luck!

I would hire a doula who is familiar with VBACs.
In my humble opinion, the key to a successful labor is spending the least time possible at the hospital.
That is easiest, when you have someone supportive and familiar with the birth process to lead you through it. Someone who advises you to go for a walk or who draws you a bath. The time away from the hospital is the time they can't call "failure to progress".
Good luck.
I hear it's great!
Large amounts of Red raspberry tea helps too!
I will pray!
VABC is the best way to go. Stand up to the doc. hold to your convictions, give yourself time to dialte and rest and walk during labor. Be patient, you don't have to contact the doc right away, they will just want to intervene for their sake not yours!
I tried that to, to no avail. I tried everything in fact....and nothing worked. I have 4 kids and I tried all sorts of remedies for the last 2. Good luck with your baby, I hope all goes smoothly!
Have you tried Red Raspberry tea, by the way? Some people swear by that....again, it didn't work for me though.
Both my kids are castor oil babies. it is pretty nasty, but works like a charm. I had about 4 ounzes of it and labor started within three hours.

I hope you know that you aren't supposed to consume the evening primrose. You are supposed to insert the capsules vaginally. I had a very TOUGH cesarian with my first daughter, 36 hrs of pitocin and didn't dilate past 4cm. They took her c-section after that. I did the evening primrose and self nipple stimulation (I was desperate!!) I dilated 2cm in 2 days time (this was 7 days before due date). I worked out (rolling back and forth) with my legs spread across a workout ball during the labor itself and I had my second child VBAC with a wonderful experience. GOOD LUCK!!
Please don't do that. Anything you take right now can cross the placenta to your baby. Herbal remedies are not regulated by the FDA, they are just regulated as "food", so there isn't necessarily a safe amount to take when you're pregnant. Have sex, walk, or better yet, enjoy your rest time while you can. :-) I know you don't want a C-Section, but I also know you want your baby to be perfectly healthy. I'm sure women have used these herbal remedies and their babies have been very healthy, but why take a chance?
Enjoy yourself. And best of luck with the new little one!
Hi K.,
I know a midwife in Tennessee that you can e-mail about your questions? Her e-mail address is:
____@____.com
Have you had any vaginal births before this one?
I believe there is an organization that talks about vaginal deliveries after C-Sections. Look on the internet to see if there are as well. Good luck. D.
I used Evening Primrose Old; HOWEVER, I had a doula and she took me to see her midwife who checked me before they used the primrose oil. I would consult a doula or a midwife first as to the correct amount to use. I have trouble with labor. With my son, I finally convinced them to break my water. No drugs, just breaking my water. And it worked! I was able to deliver vaginally no problem. I don't know if that helps because it's all such an individual process. I would highly recommend a doula (as long as she is DONA certified). They have so much information at hand and can help you find ways to have a vaginal birth if that's what you want.
Hello, I tried the Evening Primrose Oil. It didn't work for me. I did feel mild contractions, but nothing that was dilated me. I have three kids and none of them came without aritifical medication intervention (ie. pitocion). Everyone is different and you may respond better than I did. I insisted on scrapping the membranes/petocion. If you can get a good doc (its a tough job), he/she can get up there on the opposite side of your wall and insert a ballon w/petocion. This will open you up from the inside out and start contractions. They can then start the IV with petocion. I hope this helps.
