Anyone Have a Dyson?

Hubby wants to buy me a Dyson. I have a hard time justifying spending that much money on a vacuum cleaner! So..does anyone have one & was it worth the $$? So far I've seen one (a DC40) advertised for $299.99 on black Friday, which is a savings of $100. Also found the DC65 on sale for 449.99. Even on sale still seems like an awful lot of money. So, worth the money...do you love yours..why/why not? Thanks in advance :)

My sister has a very high quality vacuum. She paid a lot of money for it. It picks up extremely well.

When she borrowed her daughters Dyson she ran it in her living room where no one really goes, she's older and they don't have any kids or visitors in the house so this is basically an unused room, and she had to dump the Dyson twice.

She runs the sweeper through the whole house at least weekly. Sometimes more. So for her to have that much stuff on her carpet that her vacuum was missing was astonishing to her.

So she borrows her daughters Dyson every few months.

i loathe vacuuming and only do it when i absolutely have to. my dh can't stand visible dirt on the carpets so by default he does more of the vacuuming than i do. i was a little surprised when he got a dyson, but dang, he's smart. i don't *love* any cleaning device because i really dislike housework, but i come close to it with the dyson. and it works so well that i actually vacuum more now.
i suspect that was my dh's evil plot all along.

I love love love my Dyson! We got it a couple years ago when our Kenmore wasn't up to the job anymore. We have 4 cats and 3 kids, both my daughter and I have waist long hair as well, so you can imagine the mess we have on a regular basis. I remember the day we took it out of the box and set about using it. The best example is the carpeted cat tower we have. We'd vacuum it with the Kenmore and there was always lots of imbedded fur left behind. We took the Dyson to it, the hose part, and it looked brand new! It must have been a solid week that we were looking for every crack and crevice to vacuum with the new Dyson. Things hadn't looked that clean in a good long while!
It's so light and easy to get around and carry around the house as well. The Kenmore we had was difficult for the kids to use but the Dyson is easy for even the 5 year old to help use.
It's worth the money in my opinion!

My only regret in buying a dyson, is that I didn't buy it sooner.

Yes, totally worth the money. I think we paid $400 7 years ago. We just broke the wand part (totally our fault) and I was able to buy the new part on Dyson.com for $39. We have the DC17 Animal.

LOVE my Dyson. This bad boy rocks. I use it on my carpet, tile and hardwoods. I love the telescoping handle to get hard to reach places. My carpet looks new every time I vacuum.

Well worth the investment. We have had ours for nearly 10 years and not a single problem with it. We spent nearly $400 on it and I would do it again. Great vacuum!

I've had a Dyson DC07 all floors (yellow) model since 2004. Other than the time I got the hose hooked on a nail and had to replace it, I've had no problems. I bought it factory reconditioned for about 40% off retail. Considering it has lasted 10 years so far, the cost is worth it.

My mom hated hers and got rid of it.

I bought an Oreck about 6 yrs ago and love it!

I don't understand why or how someone would hate the lightweight great suction Oreck. I have the top of the line Oreck from 6 yrs ago. I have dogs and no longer a need for an extra vac upstairs. So easy to use on stairs as well.

That said... I hate Dyson and many ppl love them and hate Oreck . I don't get it other than personal taste.

I still have 2 Hoover's over 10 yrs old that work perfectly .

I have used a dyson a couple of times, only because that is what they had a work. I know people that love them, however, the ones that I have used I was less than impressed with as they had NO suction. I bought a Shark and LOVE it! I have 2 dogs, 3 cats kids and a husband. Has great suction and if you are needing a little less suction for something a little more delicate it is easily adjustable.

If it was my decision I would go for the Shark every time. Both vacuums seem to have their fans so you will probably be fine with either.

I had one and it worked well for a year. We have a lot of dust in our house (no duct work, cadet heaters = no air movement) and two dogs. I found that I couldn't keep the thing clean enough so the suction would work correctly. My husband used his air compressor on it even...and one vacuuming later it was just as dirty as before I cleaned it. I recommend the Shark. I love it!

We looked into buying one recently. Instead, we bought a bagless canister panasonic. Love it! The suction is amazing. Best vacuum I've ever owned, and I use to clean houses during grad school. I was a big kenmore fan, and I've used oreck-hate them, This panasonic vacuum is super light-weight, and it's envjronmentally friendly. And, like I said, it has amazing suction. I did buy a separate attachment for wood floors, but otherwise, super happy with this purchase.

I think hubby bought it on sale for around 250. A good vacuum will cost some money.

I had one a few years back. Bought in 2005 and only lasted 2 years...just beyond the warranty. It cost way to much to fix and honestly, it wasn't worth the cost. Mine couldn't even pick up cheerios and really didn't think it did any better of a job than any other vacuum I have owned.

Maybe now they are better...not sure...but I would NEVER spend the money again for one. I know of tons of people who love them though.

I've owned two and have been dissatisfied with both. The first I bought on sale with a coupon at Kohls and it worked like magic for the first two years. Despite regular maintenance as instructed, it stopped working well at all. A friend who is a house keeper by profession stated that her vacuum repair guy won't even accept them for repairs any more because they are prone to mold and can make you sick. They're also the ones he has the most calls about, though. I got rid of it, and my in laws gave me theirs. it's newer, and it's ruining my carpets - no matter how we adjust it, the suction is much too strong and the thing weighs a ton. I bought a $49 Dirt Devil up right with bags and I love it. The belt breaks regularly - so I replace it for a few bucks and 10 minutes of my time, but it's much lighter and works every bit as well as the dyson. And if and when it breaks, I won't feel badly simply replacing it. We've had it almost 4 years and it works as well as when we bought it. Plus, the bags mean I'm not breathing in everything I just picked up every time I have to empty it. Never again!

We were at the store to buy a Dyson about a year ago and walked away with a Shark. We couldn't be any happier with our purchase!

I know people who have Dysons and swear by them, but we have cleaner carpets than ever before with the Shark, for less than half the cost.

My parents have a dyson, we have a shark. We also have the roomba and scooba. My parents are pleased with their dyson. They use it at least 1x a week. They've had it for about 10+ years without any need for repair.

Our shark has been used maybe 2 or 3 times since we've gotten it. Its a decent vacuum, but we run the roomba and scooba 4+ times a week and are satisfied with having robots do the cleaning.

Best,

I bought one once and it broke within an hour. It couldn't handle a small amount of dog hair. I called the company and customer service was terrible. I had to take the whole thing apart several times with screw drivers and elbow grease, and there was nothing stuck anywhere, so I returned it. Yes, they can lose suction, despite their claim! I am quite happy with my Bissel lift off and pet vacuums.
