Anyone Had a False Negative on a Pregnancy Test After a Missed Period?

I just want to know if it is possible to be pregnant if I am testing negative 3 days after my missed period. I feel pregnant and this is the first month we tried to get pregnant but every test is negative. I feel nauseous during the day and just feel kinda weird. Is it my imagination or a pregnancy. I just want to know!!

What can I do next?

Yes; my first pregnancy, I didn't get a positive until 5 days after my missed period, and it was so faint that I tested the next day and got a negative! Another test the following day had a strong positive, and my son was born about 9 months later. :-) Ironically, both my babies were born at the same day of gestation (39 weeks 2 days), even though I tested a strong positive the first day my period was late with the second one.

Is it possible to have a false negative? Yes.

Is it likely? No. I'm sorry.

There's always that chance that your body isn't producing enough hcg to register on the test but it's really not that common. More likely than not, you are just psyched out about it and giving yourself false pregnancy symptoms. Been there, done that. If you are confident that you are pregnant though, you can always see the doctor and ask for a blood test.

Good luck on your journey! :)

I didn't get a positive with my DD until I was on day 37 of my cycle!

I got a false negative on the day I was supposed to start my period with one of the tests that is supposed to work five days before you miss it. I was also in my first cycle after stopping birth control so I waited a little while and then called the doctor and was told to test again when I was 2 weeks late and if it was still negative to call back.

With my pregnancy I test negative the first month (even fooled the OBGYN, they should have done a blood test to find out for sure), my body just was not producing the elevated hormones until after a month even then it was only slightly elevated. Since then I have many issues after having my daughter of tubular conception or ovarian cysts which can completely throw off everything in my body making it think it is pregant but really is not and have to go in a few times a year to see what is going on with my body.

Everyones body is different and your situations in life play into the levels of your hormones. Maybe you are maybe you are not. It is possible to have a false negative but it is also possible to have a false positive, the best way to know for sure is a blood test through your OBGYN.

I think it takes 7 days with home tests. A doctor can do a blood test.

YES!! Four negative tests, including one the doctor gave me! My DD didn't show up until I was 9 weeks pregnant. It's possible to get a false negative, but not a false positive. Good luck!

Typically a false negative only occurs when fertility drugs were used since some have the same hormone that a test picks up. It could be that your body isn't producing enough of the hormone to be detected yet, but most likely you are not pregnant. Good luck!

I tested negative for 2 months after my period on my 5th. I KNEW I was pregnant. I was showing by the time the test was positive!

Yup it took me mutiple tests over 3 weeks to get a positive with my second & last even at the office I had taken their urine test it was negative with my 3rd,now with this one my 4th I was 3 days late & just knew I was just waited a little longer to not waste money on negative tests & on the 7 th day it was positive. My first pregnancy I waited a week or so past my missed period & it only took 1 test same with my 4th.The tests I took ranged from store bought to Dollar Tree & the Dollar Tree ones are the ones that picked up the fastest

Yes! It depends really on when you ovulated rather than when your last period was. Most women ovulate about 10-14 days after the first day of their last period, and most would have enough HCG (the pregnancy hormone) in their system to test positive for pregnancy by their missed period. However, if you ovulated late you would not have enough HCG to test positive yet. The only way to know for sure is a blood test. Otherwise, they say you should wait a week and test again.

Also, urine from when you first wake up has more HCG in it (if you haven't gone all night) and is more likely to be accurate.

When we tried to get pregnant with our son I actually missed my period for 3 months. So we thought when I finally got a positive test that I was 3 month prego. Turned out I was only 5 weeks. I just was missing my period which was rare for me. It did the same thing for 2 months with my daughter.
