My son started with Alta when he was almost 2 and he is still a client now at almost 4. However, once you are 3 it is the responsibility of your school district to provide services and most often Alta drops clients at age 3 unless they see a real need. I can tell you from this past year Alta hasn't been that much of help as they were under age 3. I don't live to far from your area of town. Feel free to contact me anytime. Also contact warmline family resource center they will help a lot! www.warmlinefrc.org

Best wishes.

Hi no I'm not familiar with that service but I'm familiar with having a child with severe speech delays. His was do to fluid behind the ears and he couldn't hear for 3 years of his life. I wonder if she may also ahve the same problem and have you checked her hearing. My son is now 5 and is now just starting to talk. We new about he hearing deficit at 18 months but no doctor wanted to operate because he was so young. It became a life saving surgery before they did anything about it. That is my advice to you is to have her hearing checked if you haven't done so. My son gets speach therepy at his specail needs school so good luck and keep me posted. M. P

Hello,

My son was evaluated by Alta many years ago. The experience in the early years was fine, but as he grew older and his needs become more extreme, I had to battle for funds. Alta Regional is basically a State agency and they dole out the money. They are very quick to refuse services due to an over-burdened system. One bit of advice I would give you is if you can find a physical reason for your daughter's speech delay (like fluid in her ears, etc.) then you can get your pediatrician to write a letter stating this fact to your health care provider. That was the only way I could get speech therapy for my son.

Good luck to you and your family!
K.

My son was also evaluated by Alta and at first they lost his paperwork, and they sent us a survey on how our therapist was doing, so I called and said we never got one, they got right on it and came out and reevaluated him because it had been so long, it was about 6 months. The great thing was that they came to our home and did the therapy there. And then we moved, and I started going to their office to keep the same lady for my son. She was great with him. He went from speaking only 4 words to 3-4 word sentences. He did age out at 3 yrs old, but they were quick about getting the speech going at the school.

Alta is wonderful for providing speech to children that need it, but once your child becomes 3 its your school districts responsiblity. Alta can help and answer all your questions. We have had speech through Bright start theapies and also in home. its been great and you can talk with your social/speech worker and ask any question.
My dd has been through them and will graduate from the progrom and they have been a help to me and my family.
email me if you have any more questions.

Hello,

My son has recieved Alta service since he was born. They help out with a wide variety things. From gas/travel reimbursement to OT and/or speech. Your case worker will give you a better idea of what they can do to help your family. If you are being evaluated, then you must have recieved a packet by now. In the packet should be developmental stages grading sheet. I urge you to fill this out as honestly as possible. As moms we tend to see our children to be more advanced than they really are. The info Alta recieves from this package will determine how much your child is going to benifet from their services. Also, Alta is there for the family not just the child. They offer services to help you as a family and couple like: counseling, respit care.
