Please tell me the name of this dental office so I will be sure not to take my family there. I think it should be made aware for others. Thank you for sharing this.
My husband has had a lot of dental work done in the last year, a gold crown and other mercury amalgam fillings put into his mouth. Right after his gold crown was put in, he developed mouth sores in the regions where it touches his fillings. His dentist originally diagnosed it as lichen planus and said that there is nothing he can do. We've done some research on our own and have found out that different metals is very likely to create electrolysis between the metals and causes a higher than normal amt of mercury leakage, which causes mouth sores. We are in the process of asking different medical professionals on which steps to take first. We have contacted dental offices (no luck), oral surgeons (different advices). I just wanted to ask if anyone has any information relating to this and can help. Thank you in advance!!!
It's 10-27-05, Fri afternoon. He went to another dentist for a consultation. He recommended that my husb go to an oral surgeon for a biopsy. He has a apptm next Wed. Thanks for the advice so far...keep them coming if anyone else has more. Thanks!
11/06/06-We're waiting for the biopsy results. The oral surgeon says he doubts that the reaction is due to the amalgams. We are still skeptical. The doc's reason is that amalgams have existed for years and years and that my husband had amalgams put in before and it never bothered him. We still believe it's due to the dissimilar metals creating a charge. Also, it's very possible people develop a sensitivity to many things...just like an allergy. Anyways, we are awaiting biopsy results and has made another apptm w/a dentist to see about changing out the amalgams...anything would help. Thank you all!!

My suggestion would be to have all the amalgams removed and replaced with porcelin. I have done much research on the mercury used in dentistry and in vaccinations. The usual suggestion is to replace the mercury-filled amalgams. When he goes to the doctor have him ask about getting this done.
Your husband needs to have them replaced with non metalic filling. Even with like metals that are polished differently you will experience eddy currents in your mouth. Basically There is a battery im your mouth, with your saliva being the electrolite. I have the same thing and can not put any cheap dinnerware in my mouth or an aluminum can, or eat from a tin or aluminum pie shell with out a metal shock. very nasty. So the only thing to keep from having problems is to have them replaced. A good dentist should work with you on getting them replaced as soon as possible and also work with you on payments.
Hi M,
I worked for a Dentist for over 5yrs and NOT an expert, but I do know that YOU guys are right!!! Sometimes people do have reactions to the different metal in their mouth!!! Usually what they do is replace the cheaper of the two metals, so in your case would be the amalgam filling to porcealin!!! Why is he having a biopsy done on that area?? Does he dip or smoke or something??
Thanks,
If it's really bothering your husband then I would have the filling and crown removed; have them replaced with non-metal ones. I wouldn't wait around for a 2nd opinion (or 3rd or 4th in your case!). If your husband is in pain then get it taken care of ASAP. Your dentist might even be responsible for replacing them, but I'm not sure.
Dear M:
Not sure about interactions, but over the years I had all my amalgam fillings removed and replaced with composites. Amalgam to my knowledge is 50% mercury. While it is considered safe, it can be replaced these days with better-looking white fillings, and why take the risk in the first place? Dentists dispute the dangers of amalgam, but I have to yet meet a dentist who has amalgam fillings himself... Makes you think. And amalgam always leaks over time in the sense of staining the surrounding tooth. If it contains a high amount of mercury and if it is known to leak, why is it so far-fetched to be afraid of mercury absorption?

Well I don't know if this is the case for your husband, but for me, I can't have any metal fillings placed at all. It seems that I'm allergic to a compound of metals, to include copper and nickel among other things, to the point I can't have any jewelry touching my skin or I break out in blisters/bumps. It may be something to look into. If he wears jewelry, see if there's some jewelry that contain those metals. See if it starts itching if he has it on too long, or sweats on it. Best of luck!
Unfortunately, I am not an expert but I had a lot of dental work done also. My gums were always inflamed...when I had my root canals retreated the surgeon cut away some of the gum tissue that was touching the crowns and was always infamed (I forget what the medical term is for the procedure). Either way, it helped a great deal. I no longer have inflamation of the gums. I am not sure if this helps at all, but maybe.... I hope your husband gets well soon. Good luck!
M,
I know one thing for sure, because my dentist told me, mercury amalgam fillings are very bad for you. Your husband should have those removed and porcelain (tooth colored) fillings put in instead. Mercury fillings put poison into your body, please, have those removed, and I bet his mouth sores clear up right after.
