Anyone Experience Mirena Misplacement?

I had a baby in December. Husband and I aren't sure we want anymore children, so I opted for Mirena. It was extremely painful when inserted. It brought tears to my eyes. I felt like I could feel it in my body. Felt that way and still slightly since it was placed. Went back for ultra-sound to check the placement and they couldn't find the IUD. Had X-Rays done and found it on the outside of my uterus! I'm trying to get as much information as I can before I undergo surgery to have it removed. Plus they need to check that nothing else inside the adbnomen has been damaged. Do you mind telling me if you've had a similar experience? Did your doctor expect you to be out of pocket for the surgery? Did you experience any further complications due to this experience? I appreciate any help you can give me. I know it's so personal.

Thank you!

This too happened to me. And I did have it surgically removed...by the doctor that initially inserted it. He did warn me of the risks before I got the IUD...just so happened I was one of the very few that had a problem. The surgery was no big deal...a day surgery type thing and I've had no problems since. I'm not sure about costs, etc. as my procedure was covered by insurance. But I do know that you need to get it removed...you risk infection by leaving it in your body. Best of luck to you...I know it is a frightening thing, but it will work out just fine.

Something similar happened to my mom. She had one placed and then went a year later for her yearly exam and found out it wasn't even in her uterus anymore! I'm sure its a chilling to find that out. Lucky for my mom she didn't have to have surgery to have it removed. I considered an IUD and posted a question on here about them, and then changed my mind after hearing many negative experiences similar to yours. However all the women who had the surgery for it's removal said it wasn't a big deal and didn't have any complications from it. Good luck!!

This exact thing happened to me a couple of months ago. I actually requested here on Mamasource but didn't receive very many replies. I went to several different doctors before having surgery trying to find the best price because I am uninsured and the last doctor I went to ended up dialating me in the office and fishing it out. It was horribly painful, but I was so glad to get it out I didn't care.
I feel so sorry for you, I remember the time after finding out what was wrong and feeling sick and mad and worried all at once. I wish they would tell you this when you get it inserted. You can find so many message boards of women who's lives have been turned upside down by this tiny little piece of plastic. They actually helped me feel a little better since nobody I know knew what I was going through. If you do have to have the surgery I pray you have a speedy recovery.

I don't have any advice for you on the IUD, but the comment about the attorney upset me. The reason we are in a healthcare crisis is b/c people think they can file suit anytime a procedure does not go as planned. There are risks involved with EVERY medical procedure. Sounds like your Dr is as fault for not telling them to you, but this is a risk. If we contunue to file suit every time this happens it will run Dr's out of business. They are trained preofessionals, not miracle workers.

This has not happened to me BUT I have heard of this happening to other women. In fact, that's the reason women still get pregnant while on the mirena. They don't realize it came out and then end up pregnant. I remember my OB nurse telling me that's happened to some patients at the hospital I go to. I opted for the BC pill because I know it's affective and I don't have to worry about it not being in my system since I'm in control of taking it......I'm sorry that happened to you and hope you have a safe and quick removal of it.
Take care!

I've never heard of that, but you might think about talking to an attorney. Wow...
