Yes, from coughing many years ago. I don't remember how long it took to heal, but I do remember a very severe stabbing pain and thinking something must be seriously wrong with me. Good luck.
I pulled a muscle in my chest about a month ago, working out. I did go to tne Chiro yesterday & he treated the area. He said the chest muscles take quite a while to heal but a month? If any of you have experienced a pulled muscle in that area , how long did it hurt & did it hurt most when breathing in? Also, did you limit any activities?

Yes and it hurts very badly. I was told to take Aleve and limit activities.
It is a stabbing pain and hurts to breathe, sneeze or cough. It took mine almost 6 weeks to be normal again. It was under my left boob.

I pulled a muscle about 3 weeks ago, and it still hurts like hell! It's right below my left boob, and breathing in about 3/4 of the way hurts, also breathing out too quickly stabs. It's a cross between a stabbing and throbbing....The doc says just try not to aggravate it....

It does go away. I actually had my doctor look at it the first time, it hurt so much. She suggested advil and using ice if necessary, but also sitting up straight and being careful not to re-injure myself, so I have to concentrate on my posture when I bend over. Ouch! Mine isn't as bad as yours-- mine is in the center of my chest, but I swear, the first time it happened, I thought an internal organ had moved out of place! It did get better over a couple weeks.
I did several years ago when I work as a day care teacher for toddlers. I used to get on the floor and play with them and I became a human jungle gym.
I remember quite well when I hurt my chest because the pain was so great I thought maybe something horrible was happening and ended up having a chest x-ray done only to find out I pulled my muscle.
A month to heal? Yes, that sounds about right, maybe even longer. It's like any pulled muscle you need to give it time to heal and everything you do interacts with the chest so it's hard to let it heal.
I had pain when I bent down low, when I breathed and when I picked something up that was a bit heavier than normal. I tried to take it easy but again I worked at a day care and taking it easy wasn't quite possible. But I did what I could.
Things I did that helped-a warm pad did wonders for me. Especially when the pain was so bad I didn't think I could move. I would put the pad on several times through out the day and it made it bearable for the few week or two when the pain was at it's highest.
As the time passes the pain will lessen but you still don't want to over do it. Do your normal routines and you can work out just take it easy. When you feel your chest hurting-stop, you've done too much.
At LEAST a month. You tore tissue pretty well. That tissue has to heal, and if you reinjure it then it has to heal all over again. Make sure to do what you can to keep inflammation down and if you have therapeutic exercises make sure to warm up and cool down properly.
It might be a good idea to have your primary care physician refer you to an orthopedist who can then refer you to a physical therapist. I had to go that route when I tore my rotator cuff a few years ago.

Oh yes, I have done this and at first, thought I had Angina.. :) True, that muscle does seem to take time to heal and then when it's almost there, boom, you pull it again. I found that gently stretching it out each day helps.. Do you have a Bosu Ball? you can lay on your back and very gently stretch your arms out to either side... just enough to feel a stretch without re-injuring yourself.. Also, being hunched over and typing at a computer can worsen it (at least in my case) so if you must use one, sit up straight and every now and then get up and stretch..
don't forget to stretch your arms as well... Remember, nerves run up and down from top to bottom, so while it's important to care for the specific pulled muscle, it's also important to keep other areas of the body relaxed.. Because if for example your upper back is tight, that tightening will also carry over to your chest... and vice versa..

I did when I was pregnant with my second son. I thought I had a blood clot in my lungs, or having a heart attack. I pulled it from vomiting when I contracted a one day long stomach bug. I had to go to the ER and get this radioactive dye injected and they did A. mri or something like that. scary being preggers having that injected but better than dying from a heart attack. so everything was ok and it was gone the next day. so it lasted about 48 hours.
