Anyone Ever Delayed Their Labor for Weeks? Suggestions for Ultra-healthy Foods?

I am on bed rest, eating healthy, trying not to stress, drinking tons of water and taking Procardia to prevent preterm labor. I am wondering if any moms out there did anything else to delay the labor that actually worked. At approximately 36 weeks, I am already 3-4 cm dilated and 70% effaced, so I am not sure how long I can make it. I am doing the absolute best I can to keep that baby in and I welcome and stories and suggestions you may have from your experiences.

Also, are there any particular foods you would suggest to help my baby "fatten" up a little and just be a little healthier? I already eat spinach and other raw veggies, salmon once bi-weekly, fruits, whole grains and organic dairy. Any other suggestions?

Thanks moms....

At 36 weeks you are golden! Do not stress! I knew I would have my daughter via scheduled c-section at 37 weeks and when I had the amnio done they said something like 95% of babies are ready to come by, what was it?, 35 weeks maybe. Anyhoo, I have friends that delivered their twins at 35 weeks and both babies came home with mom.

The only food I can think of is avocado right off the top of my head that has lots of good fats in it.

Technically 37 weeks is considered at term. So I don't think you have to worry much. Even if your baby was born today at 36 weeks, he or she would likely be just fine. They come when they are good and ready, some earlier and some later than the due date - that date is just an estimate.

I had my daughter at 37 weeks and she was perfectly healthy.
Good luck!

Have you looked at the Dr. Brewer diet for pregnancy? I went into labor at 34w0d with my last and was induced at 37w3d because of some health issues on top of the contractions.

Just make sure you are eating high protein, good fats and whole grains.

I agree with Meaghan- don't stress because that definitely will not help. Also, as has already been stated- it's likely that even if you deliver today your baby will be just fine! You sound like you are doing great with the healthy foods- I'm sure your baby will be just great! Take a deep breath and relax! Also, yes, I've known several people with similar dialation and effacement that carried several more weeks.

technically 37 weeks is full term so you are almost there take a deep breath and relax. I never went to 40 weeks and I wouldn't want to my sister delivered both of hers at 40 + and was so miserable. My oldest I had at 38.5 and my second at 37.5 and both were very healthy and considered full term.

36 weeks is almost full term. I wouldn't stress too much about it...the more you stress, the more stress you are putting on the baby. Some women (me included) are similarly effaced and dilated for weeks prior to the baby coming. I didn't eat any differently or rest any more, just realized that my baby would come when it was time. Like I said, you are more or less "full term", so I wouldn't stress!

have they given you the steroid shots for lung maturity? honestly, at 36 weeks, i wouldn't stress even without the steroid shot. chances are the lungs are just fine at this point, i had one baby at 35 weeks, and one at 36 weeks - both came home with no assistance with me 48 hours after the delivery. i couldn't handle the procardia(my blood pressure naturally runs VERY low), i used terbutilene to hold me off during my 10 weeks of bedrest. keep yourself hydrated - that's the most important thing you can do. good luck!
