Anyone Ever Buy Those Triops Kits?

I am thinking of getting one for my friend's son's Birthday.

But do those things really work?
If you had success with it, what brand did you buy?
Reviews I have read, said some didn't even grow, or it was a waste of money, but for others they had success in growing them.
So just wondering if you had it or liked it and it worked?

Also, the Triops eat each other?
So, eventually there will be none in the bowl?
Is it easy to maintain?
Or do you have to keep buying some kind of food for it?

Thank you!

What can I do next?

So these are the new sea monkeys. Never had good luck with them. From what I googled, no one has good luck with the Triops either. :(

I bought whatever they sold at Hobby Lobby. Don't remember the brand. I do remember that I had to keep a warm lamp over the bowl almost 24/7 because instructions said to keep them warm. I put them in a fish-bowl and kept them in my classroom (2nd graders) under the warm/hot desklamp. I did follow directions regarding using the right kind of water ("distilled" or "spring" or whatever the directions said.)

Mine never ate eachother. From what I remember (this was 7 years ago), either they just started dying or I may have 'tossed them' at Spring Break when I didn't want to risk the splashing in my car taking them home for the week. I don't remember. The 2nd graders did enjoy watching them. I don't remember buying extra food. I think they lived for a few weeks or a month. I say, give it a go. How much do they cost? Like $5 ??

My son loved his. They eventually got to be about an inch long, and were very cool looking.

I don't recall them eating each other, but eventually they do die. It's kind of like having goldfish, but with the whole "prehistoric" and "grow from an egg" thing adding interest.
