Anyone Else Experience This: Child Vomits 1X a Day, Going on Day 4 Now...

My son seems otherwise fine - a active crazy toddler. He still drinks mostly milk, not a lot of solids, lucky to get 1 decent meal in him a day.

Several days ago he just threw up after drinking milk (his 3rd cup of the day) + loose stool.
Next day, same thing, about the same time of day - about 2pm + loose stool.
Third day, no vomiting, but plenty of milk and crackers and even a brat + loose stool.
Fourth day, fine until 2pm, puked, then went back to running around.

No fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc.

Dr said try the BRAT diet, sounds like a stomach virus that's being aggravated by the dairy.

Anyone experience this?

So What Happened?

Gave him a bland diet today and no vomiting and normal stools. He still has a cold with some coughing tho. Going to stick with the bland, no dairy diet and see how it goes. Will slowly introduce dairy back into his diet in a few days and see how he does.

Thanks all for replying!

My daughter did this on and off for the longest time. Her doctor just said it was a viral stomach bug every time. Eventually he ran some test and it turns out she is hypoglycemic and when her blood sugar dropped low she would vomit. Now she is twelve and controls it pretty well with her diet and she hasnt vomited in years.

I'm wondering if your son is lactose intolerant? he can handle a certain amount of milk and dairy products and then it's too much and up it comes...

I would cut back on the milk and dairy for a few days and see if that changes anything. As intolerance normally does NOT bring on a fever.

GOOD LUCK!

My daughter did this around 1 1/2... in everything she was fine, and would just out of no where. vomit one time a day. She did it in my face even. After every single test they could only tell me its some sort of viral stomach issue. They couldnt tell me what or why. They gave me some probiotics, and said be sure she keeps fluids down. She did if for 2 weeks. Then nothing all better and it never came back. Sometimes the doctors just dont know what it is. As long as he is not loosing fluids and he is not gravely ill, let his immune system work it out. She is 4 and perfectly healthy now.

The only time I can remember going through this with my son was when he was about 6 months..and the only conclusion we came up with was that he has teething.
The DR ran stool test and they all came back ok.

My daughter was sick a few weeks ago. She just puked one time. Then over the next few days, she had loose stools. I toook her to the doctor and they ran a blood test. She was fighting off a virus. Probably just a virus, I would keep him off milk and try other liquids.

Since he isn't a little baby, take him off milk for a week. It will help him get his insides right again.

Yes. Not all viruses cause lots of vomiting in a short period. There are viruses that have a kid vomit maybe once every 24 hours or so. The fact this is going on for four days seems kind of long but some viruses really do hold on. Try BRAT like the doctor recommended and cut out dairy for now. If he has shown no other signs of lactose intolerance (ask Dr. for those) then I'd put him back on dairy once he's rid of the virus. He may not have lost his appetite but be sure that even on BRAT he's not eating a whole lot; that will make it likelier his stomach will bring it back up, because he's gotten used to less being in there. Good luck.
